levian
Hello, I have been using CM2X1024-5400C4 (2 x 1 GB) for about a year now and I thought it was time for a small upgrade. So I recently bought CM2X2048-6400C5 (2 x 2 GB) and tried them out (I removed the 2 other modules before trying) At first, I would only hear 1 long and 2 short beep continuously. No display. I then tried using only one module and it does the exact same thing. But when I replaced it with the other module, there's no display or beep. Just the fans running. I went and put my older modules back in, manually changed a couple of things in the bios (everything was set to AUTO before any modifications) : Set the timing to 4-4-4-12 2T 667mhz Ram voltage to 2.1v Put back the CM2X2048-6400C5 (2 x 2 GB), but nothing changed. Well, I am no pro, so I am not sure if I did the right thing. I also wanted to try memtest, but if there's no display, I don't believe it will really work. Old modules : CM2X1024-5400C4 (2 x 1 GB) XMSS5402 v5.2 4-4-4-12 675mhz 1024mb XMS205400 New modules (which doesn't work) : CM2X2048-6400C5 (2 x 2 GB) 1.80V ver3.1 5-5-5-18 800mhz 2048mb XMS2-6400 Any help will be appreciated! 007bont
have you tried clearing the CMOS? see the manual for details
levian
I haven't tried that yet. How exactly should I proceed? Shut down the computer, unplug everything, reset the CMOS... Then should I put the new modules in or keep the older one? (before booting the computer) Do I need to change something in the BIOS? or leave the settings at default? Thank you
007bont
Shutdown the computer, insert the new modules and then clear the CMOS. if the system start all you need to do is to set the dram voltage to 1.9 volt.
levian
Okay, I tried that out, but it didn't work (tried with both and single one). The exact same problem is happening and I can't access the bios. beeeeep.... beep beep! GAH! It kills me!
DerekT
I doubt if you can make such different DRAM work well together. You have to lower the bandwidth and your 5400 is already as low as the board will go.
levian
I am not sure if I understand, but I have not tried to put the CM2X1024-5400C4 (2 x 1 GB) and the CM2X2048-6400C5 (2 x 2 GB) modules at the same time. (Which would fill all 4 slots) I've only used the CM2X2048-6400C5 (2 x 2 GB) modules (which fill 2 slots) and it doesn't seem to work. If I misunderstood, I apologize.
