hi guys I have the following corsair ram

Module Name Corsair CMD4GX3M2B1600C8 2x2GB kit DDR3 1600

but for some reason they are only running at 1333mhz

any ideas why ??

motherboard asrock H61M-DG3

CPU Intel® Celeron® CPU G550 @ 2.60GHz

could it be the CPU guys ??

thanks

jason

In this case it is a limitation of both. Officially, the G550 CPU supports only DDR3-1066 RAM. The H61 board will maxx out at DDR3-1333. Either way, 1333Mhz is that highest you can go with that setup.

That being said, there is very little real world difference between running DDR3-1333 and DDR3-1600 RAM.

hi thanks for the reply

ive checked with asrock and they claim it supports ddr3 1600 ram ???

wouldn't that mean the fastest ram it can run is ddr3 1600 ??

and as for my cpu you are right it was just a stop gap on the cpu as ill be moving to an i5 from Monday

thanks again

Unfortunately, it's still a chipset limitation. H61 and H67 boards are limited to 1333Mhz by design. Even with the i5 CPU, you would need at least a P67 chipset board to run the memory at 1600Mhz.

1600Mhz RAM will technically work with the board, but it will be automatically downclocked to 1333Mhz. Check out the Memory Support Page for your board. It states "Note1: Due to the configuration of chipset, the H61 default speed is 1333 MHz even with K series CPU."

You'll still notice a far greater improvement by upgrading to the i5 :)

That would be a fine upgrade :) Just make sure you select the correct i5. You're looking for Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge CPU's (Socket 1155) with the board you've selected. Do you have the CPU yet?

If not, you may want to go with Haswell (Socket 1150).

The processors will likely be around the same price but you would have the best performance (and latest generation).
