Eluder79
I just ordered a couple of Corsair AF140's, but forgot to actually check if the fan would fit in the exhaust location of the 650D? Can anyone confirm if it will mount ok without any modding/drilling, etc? Thanks!
Wlada011
2x140mm fit on top of Obsidian 650D, Intake or Exhaust never mind.
Eluder79
Thanks, but I meant the rear exhaust, not the top as I have an H100 in the top.
bee144
Thanks, but I meant the rear exhaust, not the top as I have an H100 in the top. The standard fan is a 120mm. I'm away from my 650D but I don't ever recall mounting holes for a 140mm fan. I'd return it and get the 120mm version. Also... why get the AF or SP fans? The fan speeds can't be controlled... Even by Corsair Link...
Eluder79
Cause the fans are connected to the 650D fan controllers, which suits my needs. I figured the AF140 would have 120mm mounting fans, similar to the Noctuas, but I guess not. Time to cancel the order.
Eluder79
Cancelled the order for now. If anyone can confirm that the AF140 fits in the 120mm rear exhaust spot of the 650D, I'll reorder. Hopefully someone from Corsair chimes in! Thanks.
stratosrally
If you look at the specs on the Corsair webpage it states 120mm only. There are only one set of holes instead of 2 sets like a 550D, for example - that does take either size.

To my knowledge not even the 650D controller will control the speeds of the fans. Thats why there are two editions.... Quite and Performance... Eluder79
Ya, but like I said, the Noctua's allow you to mount 140mm in 120mm holes, guess Corsair didn't have the foresight to support all their cases, which is disappointing. Guess i'll stick to Noctua. And how could the fan controller not control the AF's, it would be voltage control, which AFAIK, all fans can be controlled this way. iamairdeano
To my knowledge not even the 650D controller will control the speeds of the fans. Thats why there are two editions.... Quite and Performance... any 3-pin or 4-pin fan can be speed controlled. 3-pin is voltage controlled and the 4-pin is modulated control. the differences in "editions" is mainly rpm/cfm rating, noise output level and pressure. airdeano ...guess Corsair didn't have the foresight to support all their cases, which is disappointing. the AF/SP120 fit quite well in the 650D chassis. the move to 140 sized in the rear case was 800D and now some of the newer cases. i wouldn't bust Corsairs chops because of the 120/140 usage. airdeano
Eluder79
The 650D came out after the 800D though, and all I'm saying is other manufacturers have been doing 140mm fans with 120mm mounting holes for years now, so Corsair did slip up IMO. I'm gonna bust their chops if I disagree with a decision they made, why shouldn't I?
parsec
The "140mm with 120mm mounting" fans are not that common, there are two manufactures that make them that I am aware of. Next, just because the mounting holes on those fans fit the 120mm size standard, does not mean the fan will fit in any location where a 120MM fan will fit. The frame of those fans is not the standard square shape, and if clearance is tight in the place you want to mount them in, they likely won't fit. For example, I use a case that allows two standard (square frame) 140mm or 120mm fans to be mounted on the top of the case. The mounting hole locations put the two 140mm fans very close to each other. But two of my Scythe "140mm with 120mm mounting" fans would not fit, their frames were in the way, so only one could be mounted. The frame of those fans is actually larger than a standard 140mm fan at the very top, bottom, and left and right sides. I would triple check the actual dimensions of those Noctua fans, they might not fit where you want them to. The "140mm with 120mm mounting" fans have unusual frames, which can cause clearance issues. They are specialized fans that won't always fit where a 120mm fan will. If Corsair was a fan specialist company, then they might have a fan like that in their line. I'm not surprised that they don't have a fan like that. Also, bee144 meant using the AF or SP fans with the H100's fan controller will not allow their speed to be controlled. Eluder79
That's fine, but I'm only looking to fit one fan in the rear exhaust of the case and controlled by the built in fan controller. All you've mentioned doesn't really apply to my use. But whatever, I decided to give the AF120's a shot in the rear. It should at least be quieter than the stock Corsair exhaust fan.
