gothicaholic
So I started getting electrical buzz coming from my GPU / GPU Motherboard socket area once GPU hits certain clock speed and PSU hits 200 Watt, Tried a different GPU and same result - GPU / GPU Socket area has coil whine. (to be noted that I had this GPU Mobo PSU combo since I bought the PC around April 2018 - Asus GTX 1070 DUAL OC + Asus prime Z370-A + Corsair RM750i Gold + and I have never experienced anything like those sounds to like last week). Since that I started monitoring my PSU through iCUE and noticed that my PSU Efficiency dips under 87% to sometimes even 60% at even Idle state of PC, 87% is the minimal amount of the PSU (80+ Gold), Could this point to a faulty PSU? I dont have experience with PSUs at all. Edited November 28, 2019 by gothicaholic
Corsair Employee Corsair Notepad Posted December 2, 2019 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 2, 2019 It is very possible to see lower than 87% efficiency on that PSU as the 80 Plus Gold efficiency rating states that at 20% load the efficiency is minimum 87%. So at idle you will indeed see the efficiency drop below 87% as the system is not puling 20% load.
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted December 3, 2019 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 3, 2019 87% is the minimal amount of the PSU (80+ Gold) It actually isn't. 87% is the minimum efficiency at 20% load. PSUs tend to be VERY, exponentially, inefficient at lower loads.
