Rubber Dome / Cost Cutting?

I've been hearing some rumors that the upcoming K90 isn't all mechanical switches?
That some of the keys will rather be rubber dome instead of the stated Cherry MX Reds?
Is there any truth to this or was this just some sort of unfounded rumor?

Also, on a side note, I'd love to offer some feedback.

1. Super excited that somebody has finally built a gamer oriented mechanical board with macro keys. I'm even more excited it's coming from a company like Corsair with a fantastic reputation for build quality.
2. Having only 75% of the board with the aluminum face looks a little odd. I kind of wish the macro keys area was aluminum too.
3. I would give one of my left "appendages" for a big fat stainless knob like as a volume control.
   
4. What's with the short left shift key? No idea if that's going to be a problem for me or not. I'm so fingers crossed that I can get used to it.
5. Is it very difficult to make a keyboard with infinite colors like Alienware m17x? The youtube clips of synching the software to music look simply jaw dropping. Also, I've had a "very similar" keyboard to the K90 with blue LEDs, I'm kind of sick of blue. hahahaha.

(p.s. I hope my references to the a Creative product and Alienware is ok? To the best of my knowledge, they aren't your direct competitors.)


This will be my first Corsair product, and I'm super excited.
I'll probably going with Corsair for my next case build too!

Corsair: The top row keys, ESC thru Pause/Break, and the Insert thru Page Down keys are dome-switch keys. The same for the G keys on the K90.

Interesting. My guess is that they chose that because they're not hit anywhere near as much as the rest.

Kinda disappointing to hear, even if they aren't hit as much. I was using the F keys all the time in FFXI. Could move the macros to the G keys but those are the same.

Watching the video didn't help either.

I don't know, Corsair's approach makes sense to me. Based on what I read here about the switches;

They appear to be trying to find a balance between both gaming performance and price by not making the infrequently used keys Cherry. I don't see why every key needs to be mechanical, unless I'm missing something. Admittedly, I've never owned a mechanical keyboard before, so it appears I am missing something based on what I am reading. Still, I don't see how the top row keys being dome matters..., to me..., I used them occassionally, but not enough to make a difference. It's all subjective, of course.

I'll be getting the K60 as soon as newegg has it. YMMV.

Very disappointed to hear about the rubber domes.

Sorry Corsair, I was thrilled to hear that a Cherry Red keyboard would finally be available and really wanted to like it, but I think I'll be waiting for one that uses all mechanical switches.

If you ever expand your Vengeance lineup to include more products and create a keyboard that uses all Red mechanical switches, I'll be first in line to buy one. :)

Can someone educate me as to why the top row being domes is a deal breaker? Like I said in my previous post, I've never had a mechanical keyboard, so I am missing something. But I've read posts like the above all over the place.

Nevermind, I get it now. I've been doing some reading up and I can see why some are disappointed.

They aren't keys *I* use so I am still getting it, but I understand why some won't.

Synthohol, they're talking about the mechanisms UNDER the keys, not the keys themselves :)
