Hi,

I recently bought a 2x4GB kit CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 to upgrade my PC which is based on an ASUS P5P43TD PRO motherboard.

I already had a 2x2GB CM3X2048-1333C9DHX which worked perfectly.

The problem is that the PC doesn't boot with the new CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 installed.

So I started reading this forum and found that the problem must be that the P5P43TD PRO motherboard only supports sticks with up to 256MB chips Memory IC's. The CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 is based on 512MB chips Memory IC's as stated by the answers of the RAM GUY. So I think that there is no way to make these stick play at that motherboard.

My questions are:

1) What RAM sticks should I use that have 256MB chips Memory IC's?

One option is to find another identical pair of the sticks I already have (the 2x2GB CM3X2048-1333C9DHX). That way I will achieve 8GB ram.

Is there any other combination that I can make to achieve total 12GB ram?

It has to be 2x4GB pair that is based on 256MB chips Memory IC's. I'm not sure if it ever were any sticks like this.

2) I have the opportunity to buy some second-hand CM3X2048-1333C9DHX 1.50v ver9.1

My old pair is CM3X2048-1333C9DHX 1.50v ver3.2

Will it be any incompatibility issue between the different versions?

Thanks

Unless you can find older stock or a brick and mortar store that you can see the version number on the modules , there is no way to tell. Most of Corsairs memory has moved to the larger 512 IC ,making most of their memory incompatible with that system .

I believe the only kits now are the 1066mhz XMS3 and value select modules as being made with the smaller chips.

This answer actually ties in with your previous question . Basically if your going to try and add memory, no matter the part number , version, number ect, it's a total crapshoot. There are no guarantees.

Thank you so much for your answer!

So I have to learn which sticks and which versions of these sticks has 256MB chip memory IC's.

Why it is not stated at the specifications of each memory product?

For example in Crucial's site it is stated very clearly if it is i.e. 256Meg x 64 or 512Meg x 64.

Let's hope that some technician from the Corsair company knows this detail and can answer which memories has 256Meg chips.

For example in Corsair website it is stated for the CMX8GX3M2A1333C9:

"Designed for use with all DDR3 motherboards with two memory channels" and

"Guaranteed to work on all dual channel Intel and AMD platforms".

Unfortunately this is not true. I have a DD3 motherboard but is incompatible.

If I understood right there is a possibility that the same model of memory but different version have different number of chips? i.e.

CM3X2048-1333C9DHX 1.50v ver9.1 ---> 512Meg x 32

CM3X2048-1333C9DHX 1.50v ver3.2 ---> 256Meg x 64

Is that possible?

How can I know if these two versions are compatible to work together? My motherboard's QVL (Memory Qualified Vendors List - attached) states qualification with the CM3X2048-1333C9DHX but is it for all versions of this model?

In addition I wonder how can I learn about the newer models I can buy from a store today:

CORSAIR CMV4GX3M2A1333C9 VALUE SELECT DDR3 4GB (2X2GB) PC3-10666 (1333MHZ) DUAL CHANNEL KIT

CORSAIR TW3X4G1333C9A 4GB (2X2GB) XMS3 DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333MHZ) DUAL CHANNEL KIT

CORSAIR XMS3 DHX TW3X4G1333C9DHX DDR3 4GB (2X2GB) PC3-10666 (1333MHZ) CL9 DUAL CHANNEL KIT

What is the number of their chip memory IC's? Will these pairs work with my old dual channel ram?

As i already wrote to my first post I already own a dual channel 2x2GB

CM3X2048-1333C9DHX 1.50v ver3.2

And I want to upgrade to 8GB or 12GB (preferred)

To upgrade to 12GB I need a 2x4GB pair but as I understood from what I read around the forum from the RAM GUY there is no 4GB memory stick with 256Meg chips memory IC's. So my only option is to upgrade to 8GB (2x2GB+2x2GB) ?

Yes, that is possible for the same part number to have different versions.

Sorry there is no way to know other than physically looking at the modules. Corsair does not list the IC size and most place3s will not let you specify a version number when ordering.

I wish i had a better answer for you.

There is no clear yes or no answer. When you mix or add multiple kits all bets are off. It may or may not work and all you can do is try it.
