Hi everyone,

I post here since my problem is related.

I have the same motherboard with 2GB (CORSAIR TW3X2G1600C9DHX) and an INTEL Core 2 Duo E8400.

Until today everything went well using the following settings :

But I wanted to increase my RAM from 2GB to 4GB and I bought the exact same kit (CORSAIR TW3X2G1600C9DHX).

Unfortunaly, it's impossible to boot with all the four modules installed on the motherboard. Hence, I tried to reboot with only 2GB by using the NEW kit, and surprise! It doesn't boot at all. I can't even reach my BIOS...

So I reinstalled the OLD kit, and everything is back to normal, but I still only have 2GB :)

What should I try?

Thx in advance.

Do both modules of the new kit not give you boot when tested singly and in different slots?

Exactly. Here's a picture of the system memory overview (from the official manual)

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/5410/mbdimm2.th.jpg

Here are the different configurations I tried

 • Both modules in black slots (1 in DIMM_A1 and 1 in DIMM_B1)
 • Both modules in orange slots (1 in DIMM_A2 and 1 in DIMM_B2)
 • 1 module in DIMM_A1
 • 1 module in DIMM_B1
 • 1 module in DIMM_A2
 • 1 module in DIMM_B2

As you can see, I tried almost every configuration...

The working configuration is both modules from the old kit in orange slots.

Thank you for your answer, what should I try now please?

With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR1066 or DDR1333 and set the memory Voltage to 1.7-1.90 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.05 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

Ok, thx for that answer. (I pretty sure I already read it somewhere in this forum :biggrin:) I'll try it tonight.

But that doesn't explain why I can't boot with the 2 modules from the new kit...

Moreover, what do you think of this BIOS specs?

Ok, I did this, but unfortunaly, I still experienced the same problem.

Here are the BIOS settings I tried :

None of those settings worked with all the four modules installed.

Moreover, I tried the following configurations with modules coming from the new kit :

 • Both modules in black slots (1 in DIMM_A1 and 1 in DIMM_B1)
 • Both modules in orange slots (1 in DIMM_A2 and 1 in DIMM_B2)
 • 1 module in DIMM_A1
 • 1 module in DIMM_B1
 • 1 module in DIMM_A2
 • 1 module in DIMM_B2

None of those configurations worked :[pouts:

Since I tested modules from the new kit alons, is there any chance I just got bad luck and bought a failing kit?

Thx in advance for your answer.

Try them at DDR1066 and leave the timings at Auto and set the memory Voltage to 1.8 Volts and make sure Command Rate is set to 2T.

Hello,

on this motherboard, there is no Command Rate option in the BIOS. It is automaticaly set to 2T.

Moreover, I tried the settings you mentioned, and I still can't boot. :-(

Test all of the modules one at a time to be sure one is not failing then test one module in all four slots to be sure there is not some problem with one of the slots.

I made different tests, as you suggested, so here are the results.

First, let's define some words :

 • Old_M1 is Module n°1 from the old kit
 • Old_M2 is Module n°2 from the old kit
 • New_M1 is Module n°1 from the new kit
 • New_M2 is Module n°2 from the new kit

For the first test, I performed a clear CMOS and every BIOS settings are set to their default values.

 • Old_M1 in DIMM_A1 --> OK
 • Old_M1 in DIMM_A2 --> OK
 • Old_M1 in DIMM_B1 --> OK
 • Old_M1 in DIMM_B2 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_A1 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_A2 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_B1 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_B2 --> OK
 • New_M1 in DIMM_A1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M1 in DIMM_A2 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M1 in DIMM_B1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M1 in DIMM_B2 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_A1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_A2 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_B1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_B2 --> FAILED TO BOOT

For the second test, I left every BIOS settings at their default values but the DRAM Voltage, that I set at 1.8V, and NB the voltage, that I set at 1.16V. Here are the restults.

 • Old_M1 in DIMM_A1 --> OK
 • Old_M1 in DIMM_A2 --> OK
 • Old_M1 in DIMM_B1 --> OK
 • Old_M1 in DIMM_B2 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_A1 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_A2 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_B1 --> OK
 • Old_M2 in DIMM_B2 --> OK
 • New_M1 in DIMM_A1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M1 in DIMM_A2 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M1 in DIMM_B1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M1 in DIMM_B2 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_A1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_A2 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_B1 --> FAILED TO BOOT
 • New_M2 in DIMM_B2 --> FAILED TO BOOT

Same as test 1...

For the third test I set FSB=333, 9-9-9-24, etc...

I won't paste again, I had the same results.

Hence, I made 3 other tests, which are the exact same as those latters, but at DRAM frequency = 1066 instead of 1333. I also had the exact same results.

My conclusions are : all my slots work perfectly well. I just had bad luck with the new kit, it doesn't work.

What do you think about it?

PS : thx a lot for all the time you're spending with me, I really appreciate.

With just one of the new modules make sure the power is off and remove the C-Mos Battery and then use the Jumper on the MB to reset the MB BIOS and then once you put it back to normal try and trun it on and see if it will post.

If they still wont post Let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I did a clear CMOS before the tests.

Ok, well, I guess I'll ask for replacement then.

Thx again for the help.

 • 3 weeks later...

Hi there,

I received my new pair of modules yesterday, and everything works great now! :sunglasse

Moreover, just so you know, here are my BIOS settings :

Ai OVerclocking Tuner = Manual
CPU Ratio Setting = 9
FSB Frequency = 400
PCIE Frequency = 100

**************************************************
Load-Line Calibration = Auto
CPU Clock Skew = Auto
NB Clock Skew = Auto
CPU Margin Enhancement = Optimized

So, ad you can see, they work at 1600MHz.

Moreover, I wanted to thank you very much for the help. Actually, I have to say that I was disappointed at first, and I was like "Damn, I spent money to get high end mother board and RAM modules and they don't work together :mad:", but now I saw the support (forum support and modules replacement) I can tell you that I'll keep buying corsair products in the future. :biggrin:
