Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I found this on a google search and thought I'd share what I've discovered for those who come after me...

The patent appears to belong to Microsoft (Patent US 8040331 B2) and is licensed by Logitech. It stands to reason that Corsair (or any other peripherals manufacturer) could license the same patent and engineer their own solution.

Honestly, this is the only reason why I don't own a Corsair mouse, especially since the recent release of the Scimitar RGB in black.

Unfortunately, I don't see how there wasn't a Corsair mouse with this feature, I've been using an M65 Corsair mouse for several years now which has this exact feature. I was at Best Buy in 2014 where I saw the M65 (for 65 USD) with that free-scrolling feature that could be toggled on and off, and I bought it because I thought the mouse was so useful at the time. I've been using that same exactly mouse since.
