Default Brand New Scimitar pro rgb, side buttons do not work

Just got the mouse in the mail today, hooked it up and installed CUE. None of the 12 buttons on the side work inside or outside of games. I've seen the macro execution unavailable error a few times.

Windows 7 64 bit
I've tried installing multiple older versions of the CUE.
I've also tried repairing the CUE each time on each version - note, when I do this, windows informs me that the program may not have installed correctly. Reinstalling does not resolve the issue.
I've also rebound each key to the corresponding number key manually in the CUE.
I've also tried creating a new profile and rebind all the keys manually.
I've also tried force updating the firmware to the newest version.

The only way I have been able to get the side buttons working is to close the CUE software. At this point, dpi and lighting settings no longer function properly despite having a profile saved to the mouse. Also, when I reopen the software, i get a profiles conflict message from the CUE. Selecting "Save" or "Cancel" does not seem to have any effect as the profile conflict message immediately upon closing and reopening the software without any changes to the profile.

Googling does not provide any other answers.

Open Device Manager. Are you seeing a Code 52 error for Corsair Bus or Corsair composite virtual device?
If so, you will need to install KB3033929;
