Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 1866MHz 16GB (kit)

Partnumber: CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R

8GBx4 sticks = 32GB

Motherboard: MSI Z97A Gaming 7

CPU: 4790k

BIOS: 1.B

It's listed as supported sticks in the OC list:

http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/support/Z97A-GAMING-7.html#support-ocmem

Anyone can help me with the settings, timings volts etc?

I'd like to get atleast 2000MHz or 2133MHz out of the overclock.

Check the version number for both kits then. If the versions differ between both kits, that makes overclocking them more complicated. Some ICs will overclock to 2133 and even 2400 no problem, others might have trouble to reach 2000.

For some versions i can give you estimated settings for 2133/2400, based upon their general IC scaling.

The Ver4.29 one should do DDR3-2133 11-11-11-28 around 1.5-1.6V and DDR3-2400 11-13-13-31 around 1.6-1.65V. You might even be able to tighten the timings down a bit, but do basic stability testing first. If DDR3-2133 CL11 is possible at or below 1.50V, then you should be able to run them at 10-11-11 or even 9-11-11 with a bit more voltage (CL9 might require more than 1.65V). If you are lucky they might do DDR3-2400 CL10 and/or tRCD=tRP=12 below 1.65V.

The Ver8.22 one will probably not go that high if OC at all, at least i personally never had any luck with 4Gbit Nanya ICs beyond DDR3-2000.

  • 4 years later...

5 yr bump incoming.

Similar to the OP, I have 32GB mismatched kits of CMY16GX3M2A2133, one is v4.29 and the other v6.29. I assume the v4.xx is the same IC at a slightly higher bin than the OP has, since it's the same product line.

I have not tried too much messing with the sub-timings. Currently I got to 10-12-11-x 1T @ DDR3-2400 or 9-11-11-x 1T @ DDR3-2200. Have just left the voltage at 1.64v for the time being and working on tightening DDR3-2200 CL9 timings (9-10-9-x).

I'm tempted to try the v6.29 kit but I cannot find any clues on 4gbit ProMoS modules and their overclockability. Any advice?

Never saw Ver6.29 based Vengeance Pro myself. Are you sure it is not a Ver5.29 based kit instead?

That would be Hynix 4Gbit MFR and those were very commonly used on these specs and that series. As a bonus their overclocking capabilities are also pretty well documented all over the web.

It can be a bit hard to read the labels sometimes and some numbers look kinda similar at first sight. However the actual number should be easy enough to identify from a photo. With enough megapixels you don't even need to go into macro-mode for that.

Had another look, and you are spot on. Also makes sense I was not able to find anything about ProMos 4Gbit ICs out there.

The 5 looks like a 6 at a glance however it has the same overall shap as the "5" in the voltage part of the label; "1.5V"

Thank you, appreciate it. Eager to pop these in and give them a run!
