Hartacus
OK I'm having a hell of a time with this and have been working on it for hours. I was just trying to get it to 2000mhz as it is advertised. With my CPU oc it ran fine at 1600mhz but would crash at anything over. So I reset my BIOS and used XMP. It would crash upon loading windows at 2000mhz and at 1700mhz. I then put the ram freq at auto and it is running stable now CPU-Z says DRAM Freq is 535.3 MHZ so I'm assuming its clocked at 1070. WHy with my default settings for my CPU can I not get the RAM to go up to 2000MHz? Any ideas? I was also looking on another forum and they told someone with a different cpu to rais the QPI to 1.45 volts and it worked for them. I tried it and my computer wouldn't boot at all. Right now I have default settings I have an i7 960 rampage iii gene h60 cooler ATI HD6870 before (which I would like to switch it back) BCLK= 200 multi = 20 cpu volt = 1.
HU16E
Whoever suggested to set the QPI to 1.45v's IMO is  ! I suggest to look into the Intel datasheet for your CPU to verify voltage limits. QPI voltage should not be needed to be raised over 1.35v's unless involved in 'extreme' OC'ing sessions. I lost count how many MSI X58's I have built, but not sure what the names are in other brands for specific settings. Set them up manually to the specs on the RAM labels, timings & DRAM V.. Try Command Rate of 2. For RAM speed, it depends a lot on the bclk setting. 200 with a Memory Ratio of 5 & Uncore Ratio of 10, will set it up for the RAM to run at 2000. BUT! It is always possible that your CPU IMC can't run the RAM at 2000, that is not the RAM's fault. You may have to set the RAM speed lower than 2000. WHy with my default settings for my CPU can I not get the RAM to go up to 2000MHz? Keep in mind that the the native support for RAM on that CPU's IMC is only 1066. peanutz94
Whoever suggested to set the QPI to 1.45v's IMO is HU16E, depending on CPU a QPI of 1.45 is not uncommon and suggested here by many of the Corsair employees .But no more than 1.45v unless as you said extreme OC situations. But obviously with the QPI at 1.45v with the OP's MB is too much otherwise it would have booted just fine. I personally have my qpi at 1.45 with my 24 gig kit for almost three years now without a hiccup WHy with my default settings for my CPU can I not get the RAM to go up to 2000MHz? Any ideas? As HU16E pointed out i believe your CPU just wont overclock to 2000mhz. I have seen very few first gen I-7's run more than 1866mhz. Just for comparison, my 920 wont hit much over 1700mhz without locking up, but thats with my CPU at 4.5ghz
Hartacus
what was your magical settings to 4.5ghz? Can you post your bios? Every time I get up to 4.4 and run prime95 I crash and burn. as for the RAM So I tried searching google for dominator gt frequency and i7 960 Unicore and it showed me a picture of a unicorn pissing on another unicorn. lol. I then put it in quotes and I got this forum with an italian guy with a similar setup. http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showthread.php?t=2030510&page=600 I copied his settings and got my RAM working at 1744mhz with my 4.0ghz oc. How do I adjust the unicore in bios? Any ideas where to go from here to get to 2000 mhz? http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg623/hartacus/16052011461_zps8ffbae62.jpg http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg623/hartacus/16052011464_zps5a804013.jpg http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg623/hartacus/22062011888_zps7619070b.jpg http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg623/hartacus/22062011888_zps7619070b.jpg thanks for your reply. For 2000 (Eclipse Plus's) or 2133 (BB X's) on my MSI's, I never had to go beyond 1.35v's on QPI. I'm surprised you guys endorse overvolting beyond Intel Absolute Maximum. http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh504/ClipperSnipper/IntelSpecs.jpg To the OP. I would like to help you with the BIOS settings, but having exclusively dealt with nothing but 100% MSI mainboards over the last 5 years or more, I don't know the names of settings on other boards. For RAM, I am used to calling it Memory Ratio, & Uncore Ratio settings in relationship with bclk.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 24, 2012 Corsair Employee Share Posted October 24, 2012 Max CPU/QPI would be as follows: Core I7 9XX CPU's B Stepping Max V 1.25 Volts C Stepping Max V 1.65 Volts D Stepping Max V 1.45 Volts
Hartacus
Now im really confused. Can someone just plaese tell me how to trouble shoot or what to do?
HU16E
Try the suggestions I made in Reply #2, with QPI set to 1.30-1.35v's. "Try Command Rate of 2. For RAM speed, it depends a lot on the bclk setting. 200 with a Memory Ratio of 5 & Uncore Ratio of 10, will set it up for the RAM to run at 2000. BUT! If you have a digital multimeter, check that the DRAM V. when set is truly at 1.65v's. Difference in performance between 1744Mhz & 2000Mhz is not really all that much. Benchmark tests can confirm it as a true statement.
zsde
Ram Guy, could you link me to the Intel technical documentation that contains this information, for my own future reference. Max CPU/QPI would be as follows: Core I7 9XX CPU's B Stepping Max V 1.25 Volts C Stepping Max V 1.65 Volts D Stepping Max V 1.45 Volts
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 25, 2012 Corsair Employee Share Posted October 25, 2012 There is no document from Intel on how to over clock, but you can look up your specific CPU's S-SPEC and it will tell you maximum Voltages it will support. Turbonerfs101e
Hi Hartacus Did you cheak for motherboard bios update? As it improve compatibility and stability ove system Intel memory speed is 1066, 1333, 1600, 1866, 2133 and 2400MHz If you want to OC CPU don't espect system to run stable AS wend you OC CPU memory will go faster and you go over the 2000MHz tested by Corsair. You have 2 choice run system with XMP profile at 2000MHz or run with CPU OC at lower memory speed Hope this help Sincerly yours
