FINALLY got the best airflow for Crystal 280X

Hi,

I'll try to keep this post as short as possible. Sorry for my bad drawings in advance but I'm sure you will get the point.

PC Setup

  • Asus TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS Motherboard
  • AMD Ryzen 3600X CPU
  • Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 CPU Cooler (air)
  • G.SKILL 3600 Mhz Rams
  • Asus Strix RX 5700XT OC 8gb Graphics Card
  • Lenovo G27c-10 165Hz Monitor
  • Top dust filter is ON
  • Front dust filter is OFF
  • Bottom dust filter is ON

So the picture below is showing the final fan layout by which I achieved the lowest overall thermals including NVMe drive, Rams, MB temps. Before coming to this conclusion I have tested the followings:

final layout: https://imgur.com/ONDtrLO YES :D:

  • 2 exhaust fans at the top + 2 intake fans at the front + CPU fan at the front (no test results but temps were the highest) bad :[pouts:
  • 2 exhaust fans at the top + 2 intake fans at the front + CPU fan at the back (no test results but temps were still high, almost no change) bad :[pouts:
  • 1 exhaust (back) fan, 1 intake (front) fan at the top, 2 intake fans at the front + CPU fan at the front (results: https://imgur.com/3vPRM8d ) meh :sigh!:
  • 1 exhaust (back) fan, 1 intake (front) fan at the top, 2 intake fans at the front + CPU fan at the back (results: https://imgur.com/ier1M6e ) hmm, maybe
  • 2 intake fans at the top, 2 intake fans at the front + CPU fan at the back (results: https://imgur.com/Kf9YqC7 ) ohh

Graphics card's fan curve (very very important) during the tests: https://imgur.com/kWyLfbA

Each test was made during 30 minutes of CoD: Warzone gameplay with an average FPS of 150. Game graphic settings were medium-high and producing as much fps as possible since it is the main cause of heat generation.

!!! THIS LAYOUT [2 intake fans at the top, 2 intake fans at the front + CPU fan at the back] IS BEST FOR THIS CASE WITH THIS SPECIFIC HARDWARE ONLY. IT MAY NOT BE THE BEST FOR OTHER PC SETUPS !!!

For the rear exhaust fan, make sure you cover the mesh area around the fan at the back of the case so the hot air will be exhausted through the fan only with increased velocity.

Hey, I know this is kinda old but still, according to pcpartpicker you can't fit the noctua u12s inside this case, how did you do it? I'm planning to have a really similar rig and was hoping to fit a good air cooler

Hi, yes that's true. Noctua u12s will not fit into this case but I ended up finding a custom solution which involves replacing the side tempered glass with a specially cut tempered glass. This way the height of the CPU heatsink is not a problem anymore and I also think it looks kinda cool. Here are some pictures of the case.

Hey man, I have been struggl¡ng for months to find a good setup, I was a big noob on pc building, and i choose this case for the looks lol, so Im asking if you could send more photos of the case, from the back, and I dont really know if you have a fan on the back or what, and where could I buy that specially cut tempered glass, or if you could send the exact measurements, cause I really want to do almost exactly what you did, I would really appreciate it. Big Thanks

Hello ItaloFecci, unfortunately you cannot buy that kind of tempered glass from anywhere but I will give you the measurements so you can have it cut at a glass factory. I was lucky with it because I have a friend who owns one :)

For the rear fan and bracket, I also made a DIY fan bracket. Here are the pictures of measurements, tempered glass and rear fan & bracket. The note on the measurements picture says: "diameter of the holes is 9mm"

!!! WARNING !!!

Measurements for the tempered glass in the picture is compatible with Corsair Crystal 280X + Asus TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS Motherboard + Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 CPU Cooler ONLY !!!! This kind of modification to the case will void your warranty !
