Question Single SSD x RAID

Hello

I have a Corsair Neutron Series GTX SSD running fine on AHCI mode on a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 at SATA 6 Gb/s. Now I am installing two Seagate Barracuda SATA 3 Gb/s HDDs and wondering if it would be a good idea to use them on RAID mode.

Considering that the SSD will not get any benefits from the RAID, I would like to ask to the experts:

1. Would I get a performance drop on the SSD using RAID mode instead of AHCI?

2. Would TRIM continue to be enabled in RAID mode?

3. Does TRIM still being important with these newer SSDs?

Thank you for your help!

Default

it won't slow down the ssd unless you add it to the raid array with those platter drives. If you get all the newest drivers IRST drivers from intel, and see if theres an rom update for your board. the newest version of IRST has trim built into it.

Thank you, Mikesnow. That's correct. I just benchmarked the the Corsair Neutron Series GTX 120 GB in both modes - AHCI and RAID - using the latest IRST driver version available (12.5.0.1066) as you recommended.

1. Would I get a performance drop on the SSD using RAID mode instead of AHCI?
Answer: No.

AHCI on the left | RAID on the right

2. Would TRIM continue to be enabled in RAID mode?
Answer: Yes.
