Hi,

I've got an MSI P6N SLI Platinum with a Core 2 Duo E6420 that is having trouble when I add 4GB of ram. 2GB seems to be fine but when I push it to 4GB I get problems. I'm wondering what my BIOS settings should be for 4GB.

Here's the BIOS says for...

Current CPU Core Frequency: 2148MHz

Current FSB Frequency: 1067 MHz

Current DRAM Frequency: 800 MHz

Here are the options available to me in the MSI BIOS for Memory timings:

tCL

tRP

tRAS

tRRD

tRC

tWR

tWTR

tREF

Command Per Clock

I also have these voltage settings available:

Memory Voltage

NB Voltage

SB Voltage

FSB VTT Voltage

Thanks in advance

After Googling the issue, I noticed that others were seeing the same effects (i.e. memory > 4Gb == slowdown). On the MSI forums there's even an unofficial bios version (1.32) that claims to fix the problem.

Before trying something as drastic as flashing with an unofficial bios, I flashed with the latest and greatest official version (i.e. 1.30) from MSI and the problem seems to have disappeared.

I will, however, try your suggestion of 2.1v for the memory.

Also, based on this (http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54052) post, I tried to manually fill in what my timings should be. Unfortunately, I can't seem to match up "tRCD" (Row Address to Column Address Delay) because my BIOS doesn't have it. Do these settings look accurate?

tCL = 5

tRP = 5

tRAS = 15

tRRD = auto <-- Row Active to Row Active Delay

tRC = auto <-- Row Cycle Time

tWR = 5

tWTR = auto <-- Internal Write to Read Command Delay

tREF = auto <-- refresh rate of the DIMM requiring the most frequent refresh

Command Per Clock = 2T

Thanks
