aschb
I still use one of the first x256 V1 and have not erased or updated anything. Performance after 1 1/2 year was still ok and I had no issue with the drive. I downloaded the latest version of Parted Magic 6.0 and found a new option to erase a disk/sdd the easy way. Therefore I did a backup with Acronis V11 (as I do everyday) and started Parted Magic from a CD. I didn't disconnect any other HDD or DVD drives and let ACPI doing the job. Clicked on the option to "Erase Disk", entered a requested password and hit enter. After 3 second I got the message the erase was "successful". Restarted the PC with Acronis from the CD, restored the full image and restarted the PC again. W7 started and everything was fine. ATT246 shows full performance again (about 20% more performance = initial performance of x256) How much time did it take? Acronis full backup x256 = 15 Minutes (used data 85 GB) Parted Magic = 5 Minutes to start up and erase x256 Acronis full restore = 15 Minutes Restart PC with W-7: 18 seconds
BigRigDriver
Just a note to people on RAID: Unraid your drives before using this method, then raid them again & followed by the Acronis image restore. I prefer to use Acronis boot disk than the windows version.
aschb
I used the Acronis Media Builder CD to backup and restore the X256, too.
