800D: Using the hot swap bays

If you are getting blue screens of death whenever you plug in a storage drive or a solid state drive in to the 800D hot swap bays, Try the following method and see if it solves your issue.

The hot swap test was done under a X58 platform using the latest IRST 10.8.0.1003.

-Make sure your chipset supports AHCI mode.

-If you installed Windows 7 under IDE mode. You will need to modify your registry.

-Once you have applied the registry change, restart your computer and boot in to the BIOS. In the BIOS, Change the SATA Mode/Configuration to AHCI then exit and save changes.

-When you get to the desktop Windows should be installing the generic AHCI Microsoft drivers. Once that is done, it will tell you to restart your computer to apply the changes choose no and install IRST then shut down your computer.

-Plug all the drives that are going to be used for hot swap, and boot the computer.

-Head to "Device Manager" and double click "Disk Drives", Right click and select properties. Then click the policies tab and untick "Enable write caching on the device" click ok and you should be ready for hot swap.

-When you disconnect a drive IRST should popup saying "Disk on port X: Removed". (Make sure IRST Notification is on)

-When a drive is plugged in there will be a popup saying "Disk on port X: Detected". (Make sure IRST Notification is on)
