CorerMaximus
Hello! I purchased my 600T in 2012 and had started noticing some reddish tints a few months back on certain parts of the fan grill. Upon my most recent inspection, I noticed that most of the intakes had a reddish tint, almost like rust. It does make sense since I live 30-50m from the sea (Mumbai) and there is a hellish mix of humidity and high temperatures around here. I tried removing it through the use of an antistatic brush, but it did not help. Does anyone know what can I do to get rid of this? I was thinking of using q-tips with a bit of rubbing alcohol, can anyone comment if this is safe? Thanks and Regards, CorerMaximus
Toasted
You could try WD-40 with a scourer to clean it off, but i'm not sure if the paint will be damaged in the process.

Thanks for your reply! :) Unfortunately, WD-40 isn't available here; although I've heard of the miracle like results its produces. :( Does anyone know of any other solutions please? Toasted
Go to your local hardware store and ask if they have an alternative to WD-40 or if they sell a rust remover. Before buying, check with the salesperson and make sure it's safe to use on areas where there is paint.

Unfortunately, no one in my locality knows what WD-40 is :( What's the generic name for it? I tried looking for alternatives and came up with "PBBlaster", but that's not available too  Will rubbing alcohol do? The last thing I want to do is stain my case
CorerMaximus
I guess this should theoretically not stain my case. Can anyone please comment on this? :) Thanks!

CorerMaximus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD-40 Thanks for your suggestion! However, while I do presume that WD40 could solve my problem, as I've mentioned earlier, this along with its substitutes aren't available where I live. Are there any generic alternatives? Toxteth
WD40 is one of those things in life that doesn't really have any substitutes, unfortunately. Something else that will dissolve rust is acid. Try using a weak acid like white/distilled vinegar, or lemon or lime juice. I know it sounds a bit "home remedy", but you don't need to use a strong acid to clean up that rust, and vinegar or citris juice should work just fine. Personally, I'd be more worried about what that sea air is doing to the motherboard and everything else inside the case
