FAF_Amd64
Hi Yesterday I installed a "fresh" Asus K8V SE Deluxe with 2x512 MB Corsair XMS 3200LL in slot 1 and 3. no bios update etc. After the assembly I booted up the computer, reviewed the BIOS settings, everything looked alright, even the two WD SATA attached to the SATA RAID connectors was found, after I made an array in the promise setup config. Well, the settings in the Asus Bios was set to AUTO on the RAM "all the way", I booted up from the memtest86 111 CD, and began to test the RAM. Memtest displayed the RAM as 2-3-2-6, that was nice :) After 10 hours and 26 passes of the std. test, everything looks OK, no errors found. I will post more detailed information later. So far so good. Tonight I will probably install a copy of Mandrake 10.0 RC1 Amd64, and see how it runs. If I can get the SATA RAID to work with it, I will do some "deep" memory testing and some benchmarks aswell, maybe try to tweak the 3200LL a little. I'll be back. /FAF
CandyKid
Welcome to the forums, FAF Amd64! This is the best thread I've read today! I'm happy to hear you made out so well! PLUR CK
FAF_Amd64
Thx for the positive input. The Mandrake RC1 AMD64 installation did not workout, could not cope with the RAID-0 setup on the promise controller, did not test it on the Via controller. So I eventually installed XP 32bit on the Via Raid controller, with the drivers from Via's homesite... or was it Asus? Tried to install XP on the Promise controller but it could not see the two drives as one. I will have to wait a little longer for an updated kernel. Runs very stable, no probs yet. I promissed a little more information about the installation of the Corsair Ram on the K8V. As I said, its basically plugn'play. This is from Sisoft Sandra. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 4, 2004 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 4, 2004 FAF_Amd64, I have the same issue with a dual Opteron MB I was trying to install SUSE 9.1 64 Bit on! It seems to be the drivers included will only see it as a S-ATA controller so you do not get the raid array! I will probably install SUSE on a 80 Pin HDD and leave windows on the S-ATA! But I really think the Linux community should go back to the drawing board! But then again that what’s you get with shareware  even though you have to buy it!
pats
Quick questions m8, Where did you get the information for the chipsets "Chipset 1 Model : ASUSTeK Computer Inc Apollo K8HTB CPU to PCI Bridge Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 200MHz (400MHz data rate)" How can I find this out? Also did you purcahse the Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200LL Pro TwinX (2x512MB)? And could you tell me where you purchased it from? Cheers for help and time m8
blaker4393
FAF - Did you just install the two modules into slots 1-3 and then booted it up and it worked fine? I have almost the same exact setup except I have the AMD64 3000+, but when I install two of the modules into any of the slots I can't get it to post. However, with 1 stick it will post fine. I'm so confused as to how to get this thing to work. >.<
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 13, 2004 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 13, 2004 blaker4393 I would start a new thread and list your system spec's and the part# of both modules and we can try to help you! pats You can get the data sheets for any VIA chipset at www.viatech.com! I think the other questions were directed at FA!
