Default Corsair SP2500 installation woes!

I am having great difficulty getting this installed- I know just two plugs!!!
I have tried both connections to the P2500 from my Creative SB x-Fi the green to green mini-jack and a phono to mini-jack but each result with an echo from both speakers.
I have tried many leads reverting all settings on the Creative back to default but still cannot get rid of the echo!

Any help please it is driving me mad!!!

Do you have an onboard sound jack? Test the speakers on that first to ensure if the issue is with the speakers or the sound card.
