Alternatives to Link Lighting Node

I really like the lighting node, but there is no availability and I don't think there will be any new models in the next 6 months.

And the link commander mini price including the lighting kit is £60. I dont think its worth all that money to put two strips of lights in my case.

So I m thinking of buying some alternative RGB lighting.

I saw NZXT Hue, but it's not controllable by software.

Has anyone seen anything that can be controlled by software and there are clear instructions how to program? (no need for programming skills)

Maybe this http://www.performance-pcs.com/flex-lights/aquacomputer-farbwerk-usb-aquabus-version.html

Doing this from my phone so sorry if that link is bad. It's aquacomputers rgb light controller. I believe there are two versions, one controlled via USB header and the other via Bluetooth on your phone.

I just got one of these and it works great. You are incorrect about the 2 versions though.

There are 2 versions and BOTH can be controlled via USB, one ALSO connects to the aquabus (their version of the commander) and one ALSO connects via bluetooth.

I have 0 issues with compatibility, both versions of the software run side by side with no issues.

Yup, that's exactly it.

You don't have to use the branded connectors and cables, any from ebay etc will work.

Unlike corsair the farbwerk uses standard connectors and cables so any will work.

Fyi,the led strip you chose requires soldering, there are connectors sold but with a slight pull will come apart.

here is everything including pinned leds

http://www.performance-pcs.com/aquacomputer-farbwerk-usb-aquabus-version.html

just beware, getting the leds up n running is relatively easy but to fully utilize the software can be rather complicated...

Thats incorrect. no soldering required.

karoloydi, If you look at the second item you linked, the white end is a connector for the LED strip. it slides over the LED's and clips closed. looks like this:

no,those are the connectors Im referring to,they work but can be pulled apart with a slight pull.

I was going to go this route but decided on soldering which is very tedious because of such small connections, these leds can also be soldered...

The fabwerk USB board, does it include the usb cable?

You have the clip applying pressure and also the 3M adhesive tape also holding it from what I can see. It should be allright.

I've seen that there are two types of connectors and led strip lights:

IP65 and non IP65

http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/modding/leds/19346/aquacomputer-connector-for-ip65-rgb-led-strips-black-70cm

http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/modding/leds/19348/aquacomputer-connector-for-rgb-led-strips-black-70-cm

Whats the difference? They are both the same price.

IP65 means waterproof. the strips that are IP65 have a rubbery silicone layer over them. That silicone layer can diffuse the light a bit and give it more of a glow... you will be fine with either. just pick the one that works for you. I prefer the non IP65 because i don't want to see the led's themselves, i want them to project the light into the case, which can be hindered by that silicone layer. google around a bit and compare...

finally someone that views lighting as I also do,Ive went to great detail to hide my actual leds

The connectors work as long as their not pulled but I found wrapping them in clear tape works great...

Ha, you aren't the only one that puts extremely high priority on lighting. That's all I'm using CL for honestly. I can't afford a bunch of PWM fans and it makes my 3 pin ones click, so now it's just a glorified LED controller that just happens to monitor temp. Well, I guess that last part is important because that's what my lighting relates to :D: Anyway, CL was the only game in town when I started this project. I'm glad to see someone else as competition in case this whole thing goes farther south than it already is. I'm already forced to use Siv on W10, which was more learning than I had in mind but it's working so I can't complain.

I calculated the price and it's pretty good!

Total £33.62

Link Node is £29.99

For that price you get the 100cm LED strip with 60 LEDs

Corsair lighting Node has only 27 LEDs

It also has 4 inputs so that you can independently control 4 LED strips.

Link lighting node only has 2.

Corsair also use custom connections for the LED strips.

Fabwerk USB uses the normal connections.

I think it's a no brainer. I'll be ordering soon.

I noticed on the specs of the LED strips it says: Dimmable - No. But on the videos I can see they can dim them with the brightness setting of the software. Can I adjust the brighness? 60 LEDs might be too bright. I want something discrete, but have the ability to make it go brighter if I need to.
