Default missing wire on led connection cable

just got a 3 pack of ll120's which included a lightning node pro and an rgb lighting hub, the cable that is supposed to connect the hub to the node pro has only 2 wires , even though there are 3 pins in each end ... is this a defect or just how it should be?

Exactly as it should be. The wire that's missing supplies +5V power, which isn't necessary for the fan hub - not only does it have its own power, but it also provides +5V on the same line.

Note that this cable is only for connecting the fan hub to the lighting channel; it won't work for strips.
