It seems to work just fine. I tested the 1600 sticks and also the 1333 sticks. Memtest 5 ran in almost 7 hours on each only differing by about 1 minute 10 seconds. The faster being the 1600 sticks....

The macbook pro can support up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM as listed on the Apple configuration tool. I doubt they would allow you to buy a 4GB version and have it not work.
