Giantdeer
Hi Iv recently bought the rm850 psu to up the power to my Dell 490 Dual Quad Core 16Ghz pc so that I can run my xfx r9 290 graphics card. The problem im having is that the motherboard requires to plugs, a 24 pin and a 20 pin but theres only one 20+4 pin plug on the RM850 ? Does anybody know a way to solve this because the only answer I can come up with is , don't buy Dell. Thanks
red-ray
Will a 1KW 690 PSU fit? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELL-Precision-690-1KW-Power-Supply-ND285-/171775416054?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27fe9cd6f6 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-ND285-Precision-490-690-power-supply-1000W-vz-/351399242967?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51d106ecd7 seems to say it's for both. Giantdeer
Thanks for the reply, il look into that but I have a dell N750p psu , the problem being that there isn't a 6 and 8 pin plug for the new graphics card. Thanks.
red-ray
What power connections does the GPU need? 1 x 6 + 1 x 8? I have just checked my 490 and have a PCIe 6-pin extender that is 13" long. The part number is NF607 and Google just found http://www.serverworlds.com/dell-nf607-precision-490-690-video-card-power-cable/ You could use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Pin-IDE-Molex-to-8-Pin-PCI-E-Graphic-Video-Card-Power-Adapter-Converter-lot-/400712543995?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item5d4c542efb but I am not keen on these. I would expect the 1KW to have more PCIe power, but can't check this.
Giantdeer
Ye that's right 1 x 6 + 1 x 8 and that sounds like a good idea, iv ordered one so ill give it a go. Do you think the 750watt can run this or might it cause problems ? Thanks for the help.
red-ray
Were it my system I would get a 1KW PSU as I expect it will have more PCIe power connectors and needed for systems with high power GPUs. What power does http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp come up with? I feel better too big than too small. Do you already have a 750W? Have a look at http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/spec_precn_490_en.pdf and http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/spec_precn_690_en.pdf. Giantdeer
ye have a 750W at the moment but just bought a 1kw, like you said better to big than too small. Not sure if it will fit or if it does have more PCIe connectors but its worth a go. Thanks for your help I was nearly giving up, ill let you know how it goes. red-ray
Good move! I will be interested to hear especially so as if the 750W in my 490 dies I would like to know if a 1KW will fit. I am wondering if you have had any luck getting CL to work on your 490. On mine it often crashes and even on a good day it fails to report: The motherboard temperatures and fan speeds The Disk Drive temperature (it's not RAID) The GPU temperature and fan speed The DIMM temperatures (this is a known limitation)
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted June 25, 2015 Corsair Employee Share Posted June 25, 2015 I believe the pin out of those Dell connectors are proprietary. Pretty sure any non-Dell PSU isn't going to work. But please let us know if you have had success.

Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted June 28, 2015 Corsair Employee Share Posted June 28, 2015 I have seen these at some small "repair" shops. Certainly the OP can find one somewhere.
