H150i Weird Pump noise

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So i got a new H150i pro rgb today, and the installation went fine. I've never actually owned an AIO before so i have zero clue on what they are supposed to sound like, but the knocking seems out of place to me.

I've attached a recording of it on the quiet setting. I should also add it was really loud when i first booted, making an even louder knocking noise, then went down to how it is now.[ame=https://youtu.be/gegTu7tQaOM]https://youtu.be/gegTu7tQaOM[/ame]

It does sound a bit off and the pulsing is a bit concerning. Does iCUE register any pump fluctuations during this? The Pro models use a round then multiply method to estimate pump speed, so it will move it very obvious incremental chunks like +-30 rpm. That is normal. Big dips to 900 or swings to 1300 are not.

That does not sound like air bubbles to me, but it still might be worth a few minutes of pump speed cycling. From Quiet/low, set the pump to extreme (2850) for 10 seconds, back to low for 10 sec, back to Extreme, etc. The idea is the pressure change will dislodge anything blocking smooth flow. The sound of the pump may also give some indication. With a flow issue, the pump's hum will increase with speed, the other sound should be somewhat the same. If that rhythmic pulsing noise gets really loud with speed, it seems like this is a mechanical issue and that unit would need to go back to where it came from.

Okay, firstly i tested and icue shows no signs of pump fluctuations (Quiet holds 1080rpm, Balanced holds 2100rpm and extreme holds 2820rpm).

I did 10minutes of pump speed cycling and quiet mode still has the same sound. With the other speed modes that same sound is still present, but with balanced the frequency of the pulsing increases, same with extreme. Should i just send the unit back and get a return? I've put recordings below of balanced and extreme mode. It definitely sounds like something is faulty in there.

Yes, pack it up. That's a mechanical issue for me. Bad luck. The Pro models have been really good on QC and that is only the second one I can remember with an issue like that straight out of the box (or at all). If you have an easy return option with the purchase vendor, take it. Otherwise, create a support ticket with Corsair, let them know it is a brand new unit, and work out the replace and then return arrangements.

Ok, i'll return it, luckily amazon has a really good return policy, where you can get a new one delivered straight away, and then you have 30 days to send the old one back.

Thanks for your help c-attack!

I personally don't trust Amazon with specific items, especially electronics, everyone sells through Amazon, it's eBay on steroids. I go straight to the companies if possible if not then Newegg.

Good luck.

That may be true, i just got the return today and installed, it's making the same damn sound. I'll just get a refund and buy it somewhere else.

See if you can grab the lot number off the cooler before shipping it back. It may be of interest to Corsair.
