wingclip Posted October 9, 2020 Share Posted October 9, 2020 Hi folks, I bought this Lighting Node Pro from Amazon a few days ago and just had chance to connect it. As instructed in the manual, I first installed the latest version of iCUE Link. I then rebooted the system but before starting it back up, I connected the Node to a USB Header and the Sata power connector to one I had available. I started the computer and was surprised because I expected at least some form of default lighting to begin, but there was nothing. I started the iCUE software, selected the RGB Strips, and then spent the next hour trying every possible selection and number of light strips that you can think of. I tried the Node's Port #1 and #2 connections with strips in each, by themselves, with and without the supplied extensions. I tried several different USB headers and Sata Power connections. I'm about to apply for a return or replacement. I'm convinced the Node is faulty in some way and if I have some time, I may even see what my DVMM says the output voltages are. Shouldn’t I get some kind of lighting when the computer is powered on, with, or without the software? I mean, I do have the software installed, but regardless, when the power is connected, I think I should get some lights even if they’re not in any RGB configurations. DevBiker Posted October 9, 2020 Share Posted October 9, 2020 You do need to configure the channel; otherwise the LNP doesn't know what is there. There is no autodetection. At this point, the best thing to do is to try one strip at a time on the LNP. It's possible that you have one bad strip. Make sure that you put it on the configured channel and that you have the LEDs selected in iCUE for the effects. You should see the effects in iCUE. wingclip Posted October 9, 2020 Author Share Posted October 9, 2020 Thank you, and yes, as I said, I've tried every combination of connection configurations that were possible, (including the possible selections in the ICUE software). I especially made certain of trying each individual strip by itself on both channels, (together, and one channel at a time). The DVMM doesn't report more than .325 volts from the Node and I should see +5v. I have already applied to Amazon for a replacement unit and boxed this one up for return. These are mass produced and if the manufacturer is holding to a 10% inspection rate, (average manufacture inspection rate on most mass produced consumer grade items is 10% in the US), it's possible that I got one that was bad. Of course, it worked perfectly and as I thought, even without the software, the lights will light as soon as the system is started. The previous unit didn't light when I started my system and I became suspicious that it was defective at that very moment. Then, as I stated in the initial post, I went on to running the installed software and tried every configuration of light connections that could be tried. I knew I was wasting my time because the lights never turned on at the startup. The DVMM only confirmed that the Node was faulty when it showed the output voltage to be .325v (it should have been between 4v and 5v). However, the point is that these lights should light upon immediate startup of the system. Just like any hard drive starts up as soon as the start button is pushed, so should any other device (or lights). BTW; my LL120 Fans got here yesterday and I tried the combination of fans and light strips a few minutes ago using the ICUE software. I was very impressed that there is virtually an unlimited number of configurations and effects I can get from the fans and strips with the use of the fan hub and the Custom configuration panel. They were a little on the expensive side but then, I spent over $4K on the hardware of this new build so I felt I shouldn't get cheap on the lighting. I ordered a command module as well. It hasn't got here yet and frankly, after seeing what the lights can do without that part, I have to wonder what the command module will bring to the table that I don't already have. I wasn't sure I needed it and I wouldn't have ordered it but there was an "open-box" unit for sale at $20 less than the usual price (which is $79), so I decided to grab that one. I'll see what kind of difference it makes when it gets here but right now, I don't really see how it could improve on the lighting as it is. Rich PS: The fans and light strip kits are a little pricey but they really are the only way to go if you want some serious control over the lighting of an already expensive build.
