H100i v2 USB Connect/Disconnect

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, odd issue experiencing here.

This is my third day using a new H100i v2 (Brand new system build), less than 10 hours up time. For some reason today I kept on getting a USB Connect/Disconnect notification. Got a Plug and Play monitor program as Windows Event logging didn't tell me anything. Tracked it down to the cooler. I have Corsair Link set to Performance with my PSU.

The issue so far is that about every 10 seconds the USB plug and play sound triggers. During the "removed phase" The LED no longer light up, and the fans connected to the cooler stops. During the "plugged in" phase, LED lights up, fans spins.

I googled around and found that if I updated the firmware might help. (Post from 2013). Another suggested to Disabled "USB selective suspend setting". I couldn't track down a new firmware, so I opted for the latter. No improvements with the issue.

Playing around with FanXpert 4 (current setting set to Silent) and noticed that if I set it higher than Slient (Standard, Turbo, Full Speed) issue goes away. USB plugged in soun, LED lights up, fan spins. Setting it back to slient, the USB disconnect sound, LED turns off, fans stops. So What am I doing wrong? Please help.

There isn't a spolier/hidden tag to hide the long post is there?

Go to your BIOS and either set the CPU fan to PWM or set it to constant 100%. The problem is that your pump wasn't getting the 12V from the CPU fan header that it was expecting because it was in non-PWM mode and varying voltage to control CPU fan speed. That does Very Bad Things to your pump.

I have the same error on a new build. I will try this, thanks.

I only registered on the forum to say thanks to everyone in this thread. This issue was driving me crazy for 2 days.

Also, why is this not mentioned anywhere in the setup guide / manual? I think it's far from trivial, and can affect many users.

I understand this thread is a few months old now but I decided to share how I fixed my issue with the Cooler disconnecting/reconnecting.

I have a Corsair H100i GTX Cooler. After staying up til 4am (I started getting this issue after a bios update), I figured out what was wrong. The bios pump fan was set to auto.

What I did was set my pump and cpu fan to PWM. This will cause your fans to go full blast while you are in the BIOS. Save your settings and reboot into Windows. After that, I set my corsair link profile settings to Quiet and the Fans went back to normal (before I did the BIOS update). You may set your profile settings to fit your needs of what you are doing.

Since doing this, I haven't had an issue of the cooler disconnecting/reconnecting.

This is another way to do it ... setting the header to PWM mode does supply the constant 12V of power. The PWM signal is ignored.

There are several ways to accomplish this goal ... making sure that the pump gets a full 12V at all times. Some BIOSes allow you to select PWM/DC mode. Some don't. Some allow you to disable control completely (Asus allows you to disable Q-Fan control) ... Some don't. But on ALL BIOSes, setting to full power/100% is both possible and works.

After spending a long time trying to fix this issue, My fix was to turn off the rainbow spirals and change it to something else. Ever since then I’ve had no issues.

Not really relevant for the H100i V2. Relevant for the platinum coolers, which are a different beastie entirely.

This didnt work for me. Updated the CPU fan to 100% in bios, restarted, and still the USB disconnect and reconnect sounds happen and its unable to be picked up in icue. Tried everything and still wont work...

Which cooler do you have?

Note that setting the fan to 100% is only relevant to the H100i V2. It's not relevant to the Pro or the Platinum.

So I've been having the same problem and have tied (at least my issue) down to whenever anything else is trying to either view readings from the motherboard or take control of any of the RGB bits.

For my situation, I've removed HWInfo64 and MSI Mystic Dragon and since then....I've had no disconnects.

While this clearly isn't an acceptable state to leave this issue and I'm really frustrated that after going for a premium AIO I'm having these issues it does at least appear to be a workaround.

Hope this helps someone else

I had the error in Device Manager showing that H100i v2 driver wasn't installed. This is what I did was go into the where it showed the hardware ID USB\VID_1B1C&PID_0C09&REV_0100

Then copy and pasted it into the google search it showed the Drivers for manufacturers Corsair. Put in the H100i v2 it gave me the driver. Installed the driver and everything is fine.
