M65 RGB Elite Left Click Failure - and I am DONE with it

So another day, another user impacted by Corsairs ridiculous left-click failure... Something that, by the way, dates back over two years now.... That's 24 months at MINIMUM that Corsair has known of these issues and has left their users without a recall, refund, or replacement solution...

So, my cautionary backstory to anyone here who is having the issue:

In August, I rebuilt my gaming machine. New build, new peripherals.. figured why not, it had been 8 years since my last build and my razer accessories, while working 100% flawlessly, were very aged.... I decided to give Corsair a try because I liked the looks of their K65 and the K70 M.2, both of which are not the highest end products offered on the market - but they are FAR from cheap.

By September, nearly a day outside my return policy, my left-click functionality became unpredictable. At first, I thought it was just me not paying attention to what and where I clicked, something that can happen if the DPI is up. So I lowered the DPI and kept at my daily activities.... As the weeks go by, the clicks become more and more unpredictable with input.... Here we are in November, just barely 90 days out of the purchase, and the M65 RGB Elite is basically a dumb, useless paperweight that misses anywhere from 30-45% of all left-click input.

Now, this is absolutely abysmal for games... Much less to say that during the day, I am a Systems Engineer and my gaming rig doubles up as one of my developer machines... The frustration is noticeable in gaming, bu it is glaring UI inputs where clicking is necessary. I would miss fields, not select drop-downs, not check boxes, etc... and as time went on the problem got worse.

So I go back and start doing my homework... ....And it turns out this is an aged problem. It spans YEARS on the Corsair products, and people of several makes, models, and revisions are impacted. Corsairs only option is an RMA, which means you're out an input peripheral the whole time it is gone. Just submitting the RMA request took SEVEN DAYS for a response from someone.... Then I was told to expect 2 to 4 weeks without a device. Two to four weeks... Without an input device... Over a known issue... They refuse to fix, for going on three years...

So I had enough. I gave Corsair a shot. I liked the look and the general feel of the build. But the product is garbage and the support is worse. I presume the K70 will also fail, given the companies seemingly incoherent ability to make reliable products...

I will say this, the M65's build quality was solid. I work out of a room with a concrete floor, and when I threw the pile of garbage down on the floor as hard as I could... it only broke into two pieces. I was equal parts impressed and bummed - Given the money I wasted on such a junk product, I kinda wanted a glorious explosion. All i got was a few busted pieces and some wires.

I'll never use Corsair products again... And while I know my influence isn't terribly far reaching, I'll share my experience with people I do know and firmly reject their purchasing of any products from Corsair...

I am ashamed in this company... I gave good, hard-earned money for a product that started failing nearly immediately... Then research told me this is wide-spread and goes back years. How horrible....

Thanks for nothing, I guess... Off to left-click on as many things as I can now, just cos I can with 100% success....

2-3 week RMA turn-around is an industry standard guesstimation, most of which is postal delivery time. Try to RMA your Razer mouse and wait for the estimated time.

Some companies offer an express RMA, where you give a credit card, and they put a hold on the card for the amount of the item. They then ship you out a replacement, and give you 2 weeks to mail back the old unit. When the company receives the old unit, they cancel the hold on the card. If they do not receive the old unit, then they charge you for the replacement.

"That's 24 months at MINIMUM that Corsair has known of these issues and has left their users without a recall, refund, or replacement solution..."

The RMA IS the offered replacement method. Don't be such a drama queen.

If a left-click issue is prevalent on a model for a long time, more than likely the switch is fine, but the plastic left-click button warps slightly, and no longer hits the switch as intended. Raising the button from the front by wedging in something, like say a q-tip, to the proper distance (you can compare it to the right-click spacing) and warming the plastic with heat, can fix the issue. Until it warps again from being hammered again. :)

Being a System Engineer, you failed to truly understand the problem.

Nice try patronizing my professional abilities, the unit was less than a month old when the malfunction started. The button was *not* raised, warped, or malformed... in fact, you could hear the depression of the switch occurring, whether it registered the input or not.

Don't be a fanboy, the company is making bad products and should be held accountable.

Too bad you broke your mouse...

FWIW, you could've usedthe iFixit article that shows how to open the mouse and then spray all the switches with WD40 generously, remove excess from the mouse electronic boards, and reassemble. That would've probably resolved your issue definitely.

I'm not saying that it's normal to have to do that but it's just sad to see a good mouse go to waste like that ;-)

there was no dirt, grime, or build-up within the trigger mechanism that depresses the switch... It was less than 33 days old when the problem presented, and the environment the system is in is spotless near 24/7. But beyond that, with it being in pieces it was pretty clear if there was grime or not....

Like many people have reported with no response from Corsair, the switch depresses and is audible. This is a hardware issue, either with the switch itself or the board/chip and circuitry assembly they are using.

Look, I liked the overall appeal of the device... I wanted it to be the device I used, but its just badly built and there are a LOT of complaints about it. I would understand if this was common among peripherals but it isn't. The ones these replaced were 8 years old and working fine... They were tired-looking, but operational...

I believe you about the switch not having any grime and/or dirt. You can hear the click but it's not registering in Windows. I have had all 3 mouses do that to me within a few months of having them (for me and my son, and then I upgraded to a M65 Elite (white)).

Although it was disappointing that I had to do it (didn't want to have to wait for an RMA), it did resolve the issue for me definitely on all 3 at home.

PS: It's as though the switches get glitchy after a certain amount of clicks and since we tend to left-click more often than we right-click, it becomes an apparent issue on the left side first.

  • 8 months later...

I'm also having the same issue as jmer88.

I have sent in the unit for a replacement via ARMA (they held $60 on my card and sent me a new one)... I got the new one, sent back the old one.

But now it's been a week and a half, and the new mouse is missing about 20% of the left clicks.

This is from someone that babies electronics to the point I've never used a case on a cell phone. I use the mouse 95% of the time for work (UI/UX designer & Product Owner).

For the folks trying to "help" jmer by saying he broke the mouse or it's just old.... i can say from my experience, it's poor micro switches that Corsair is using. Also, just do a quick search on google for "Corsair mouse left click not registering" and you'll see there are a lot of people that go through multiple of these.

I've noticed mine is almost like a dead zone on the mouse in a few spots. I 100% hear and feel the click, and nothing happens. I've used click test programs in my browser and can see it's not registering (just to make sure i'm not pressing the mouse down and then moving it some to make a "drag" motion instead)

I literally created an account to post this. It is an issue. It's real, and very very frustrating to pay a premium for a product that within a month went bad, within 2 weeks the replacement went bad, and also have to pay for shipping out of pocket which was about $11.00 USD... I simply don't think this is fair to customers and I don't think anyone should rush to defend Corsair when there are a lot of people online with the issue, it's no secret.

That's all, I'm off my high horse now.

If anyone has a fix for this that doesn't require a ton of work like soldering on a new micro-switch... I'd love to keep using this mouse. I like the feel and design, but it's near impossible to do my day job (let alone competitive gaming) with it currently.

I have the same experience with this mouse, the ifixit guide did not do a thing. I play allot of moba therefore I am confident in saying I right click more then I left click, It seems it's a faulty switch as the switch feels spongy right out of the box.

Shouldn't have a spongy feel to the switch, especially right out of the box. You can submit a ticket on our support site, and we can have the mouse replaced through our RMA service:

https://support.corsair.com/

...but the faulty switches are a known expected thing at this point? I don't think we should have to pay return shipping for something you know will not work within a couple months...

I am also having the same issue with a nearly brand new M65 ELITE. I purchased it on 12 August. It's now 14th October, so it's slightly over two months old but it's been doing this for at least two weeks now, gradually getting worse.

I love the mouse as a whole, it's a really good design... but this left click issue is making it so frustrating to work with.

I use the mouse daily, switching between two different machines... my personal gaming PC and my Lenovo work laptop. Both of them exhibit the same experience so it's definitely the mouse hardware at fault, not something in the machine or software. I have tried doing a "hard reset" on the mouse, I assume it has some firmware in it for some reason... this didn't make a blind bit of difference.

Double click is where it's at its worst. I can happily sit in Outlook and have to double click an e-mail 6 times before it actually opens. Sometimes it takes at least two or three clicks for it to even select the e-mail.

At the moment, I'd say it's probably registering 75% of general clicks, but when it comes to double clicks, it registers about 30% of those. Being someone who works at their computer all day, this is very very frustrating.

I will likely look to RMA it very shortly, but I'm not overly comfortable with the idea of getting a replacement as judging from the search results that led me to this thread, it seems to be a very very common issue with Corsair mice in general... so I'm not confident in the product enough to feel a replacement will be any better and would probably RMA'ing the RMA replacement only a few months later.

Considering the number of reports I'm seeing, it would be good if Corsair could actually investigate this problem, confirm it and FIX IT rather than just telling everyone to RMA their product for a replacement.

I bought a new one while RMA'ing the last one. The new one just started acting up a few weeks ago, it is only 6 months old. So now I am using the one they sent me when they replaced it the first time. I really do not want to have to RMA these things every 6 months. I am seriously disappointed with Corsair on this. I have had mice last years without issues and these barely last 6 months.
