Default 512Mx8 CMX12GX3M3A1333C9 kit and Asus P6X58D Premium

Are there any compatibility issues between x58 chipset motherboards and DDR3 modules using higher density (512Mx8) chips? I have an Asus P6X58D Premium mother board and am wondering about a CMX12GX3M3A1333C9 kit (4 x 3GB modules) that's version 2.21, which according to the Corsair DDR3 chart uses 512Mx8 chips. I know that earlier chipsets like the x38 had issues with higher density chips, but what about the P6X58D Premium, which uses the x58 chipset?

For some reason, this kit doesn't come up for this motherboard in the memory finder, but this seems fairly common these days -- i.e. the compatibility list seems fairly incomplete, with many compatible kits simply not being listed for any given motherboard.

Thanks,

Larry

Thanks. You mean the one with the higher density chips, right? The same CMX12GX3M3A1333C9 kit can use either 256Mx8 (v2.13) or 512Mx8 (v2.21) chips.

I did a memtest86+ run and I got a bunch of errors on the first pass, so it looks like I'm going to have to exchange this particular kit, but thanks for confirming the compatibility with the higher density chips and the P6X58D Premium motherboard.

memtest errors could be caused by many things and in most cases just a matter of a BIOS adjustment.

What are the exact settings your using for the memory and have you tested the sticks one at a time?
Beforre you go changing kits lets try a few things first. I'm willing to bet we can get them to run correctly.
