They are not both controllers, but they are both required. You need a way to communicate with the software. That's the Lighting Node Pro or Commander Pro. You also need to supply the power to the lighting elements of the fan. On a LL that is quite a bit at more than 0.6A per fan. It needs its own power line and that is the RGB Lighting Hub (6 port). Both of those elements come in most multipacks. Setting this up for a single fan may not be very cost effective.

You would need a controller.

It would be possible for their to be an adapter, assuming that your motherboard supports addressable (3-pin) RGB. DO NOT connect the fan to a 4-pin RGB header.

i think i already have connected both wires to a rgb header while i was switching them around. what's the consequence of this?
