Greetings, To keep the long story short RM850 having zero rpm fan "feature" managed after couple of years to "fry" high voltage capacitors (correct me if I'm wrong), I wasn't the one repairing it. So the PC was impossible to turn on, altough once it's booted, never had any issues. Stress testing, games etc. 4790k@4.8 GTX970 G1 (now 3060Ti) Now we all know why this had happened, and I do believe that I won't be able to reach "threshold" where the fan starts spinning so is there anyone who can help with modding so the fan spins on lower load? I don't want to throw it away, but I had to buy used Seasonic650W while this one was serviced. What do I need to do in order (tried searching around the grid, found nothing) to mod the (?)attenuator/potentiometer(?) to get the fan spinning at lower load. No reason to sell it, nor would I want to explain why was it opened. Basically 200e initially, costed me 20e for repairs, then 50euros for used Seasonic. Nasty Corsair 🙂 Thanks!
  2. Hi, I am going to replace my Corsair RM850 (gold) with HX1200 (platinum). My question is, can I just replace the PSU and not replacing the RM850 cables? Can the current cables handle the new PSU? I checked the cable compatibility page but couldn't figure this out. Thanks, Alexa
  3. Hi! I have the RM850 PSU, purchased in December 2013, so it's around 7 years old. It has worked flawlessly all the time and is still outputting all the power that my system needs. I have 5 hard drives, motherboard with an Intel i7, two AIO coolers, a GTX 1080 graphics card, 5 fans etc. Under full load I would say the system draws quite a lot of power. Recently I have started paying more interest to the temperatures of various components in my computer and I happened to touch the casing of the PSU. It was very hot! When I held a temperature sensor to it it was close to 50 degrees celsius (122 Fahrenheit). This is so hot that you don't want to hold your finger to it for long, but it's not so hot that you get burned. Despite this rather high temperature, the PSU fan was not running at all. This makes me a bit concerned. Not only must the high temperature put a stress on the components in the PSU, it also generates a substantial amount of heat that the case fans have to move out of the computer case. I know the RM850 has a zero RPM configuration, but when the PSU is this hot, one would think the fan should be running. I also followed Corsairs fan testing guide (https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025085372-How-to-Test-a-power-supply-unit) both with and without a load on the PSU. The fan does not spinn up despite the paper clip that connects pin 4 and 5 on the ATX cable. When I switch the PSU off after the test, the fan makes a little "jitter", but that's it. My conclusion is that the fan seems to be okay, but the PSU never tells it to start. What are my options? I'm thinking of rewiring the PSU fan by connecting it to an external fan connector that I can control manually or with the help of Corsair Commander. I have opened up the PSU so any warranty is long gone. It doesn't matter though since the PSU is so old.

Hi all, There seems to be an issue with my new RM850 (2019) I just got for a new computer: When connecting the 24pin ATX to a new Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard, the motherboard's RGB LEDs light up, and also the start button on the motherboard. But when trying to start up (by pressing this integrated start button on the motherboard, or the case button) nothing happens … Here are some things I tried: - Paperclip+fan method test is OK > so the PSU delivers power (also the LEDs light up). - When connecting the 24pin ATX to my older Asus Crosshair VI Hero, I have the same effect (and it works fine with a HX750i). - When connecting the 24pin ATX of my HX750i to my new Asus Crosshair VIII Hero, it starts without any problem. There seems to be something wrong the RM850 receiving the 'start signal' from the motherboard ? By using the paperclip method and leaving the paperclip in the 24pin ATX connector (from the backside), I've been able to start the motherboard, boot and install windows ... But I have a feeling that this is not how it should be ;) Any idea's why this is happening, is there something I can do about it ?
