  1. Thanks, I did send a ticket but having booted up this morning it was all magically working again. Very strange!
  2. It's been fine for the past four months, but I just booted my PC and noticed the Capellix fans weren't spinning. Looked in iCUE and there was no sign of the h115i pump / commander core, just the commander pro that runs my other fans. I updated iCUE to version 4 (side note, updating via the application seemed to just..remove iCUE entirely. Not sure what that was about. Had to download it from the website afterwards), and now it sees the pump, but it's not detecting the fans connected to it. The only way to get the AIO fans to start spinning is to exit iCUE entirely (which screws up the lighting settings for everything else). The other fans (3 front, 2 bottom) connected via the commander pro all seem to work fine with iCUE. Any idea what might have happened?
  3. Ah fair enough, yeah configuring two vendor applications for RGB sounds like a nightmare. I have 8 corsair fans in my case, so the idea of doing a complete switch sounds a bit untenable to me. :) I'm thinking if I change my AIO to a quieter one, I'll leave the Commander Core+Pro in the mix and try to bolt the current Corsair fans to the new radiator . Not sure how wise that is though (or if iCUE will throw a tantrum), haha. Seems like PC cooling tech could do with a bit more standardisation and less of the proprietary nonsense to lock people into manufacturer ecosystems.
  4. Will you? I'm thinking of ditching my Capellix due to the sound as well, but surely ICUE will still work to control the other case fans? Are there issues mixing RGB/Fan control vendors?
  5. Just to mirror the sentiment - I tried making a video but my phone mic refuses to pick anything up. The video freelookuk posted is exactly the same as mine though, loud as hell. An offiicial word on firmware updates for RPM control for the Capellix pumps would be great. Had three months of this droning sound now. :|
  6. My capellix fans do this, they start on power on, then turn off for 5 seconds or so whilst Windows is loading, and then start spinning again. Never really saw it as a problem but it did strike me as odd. I figure a few moments from a cold boot without the AIO fans spinning isn't going to be enough to cause a noticeable temperature spike.
  7. I've just been musing potential replacements. Anyone know if there is anything to be aware of if leaving the Corsair eco-system for an RGB AIO? I've currently got 7 fans routed through Commander Core, Commander Pro, RGB Hub and a Lightning Node Pro (it's a mess! not proud of the cable management in the back side of my case. :S Probabaly don't actually need the lighting node or RGB Hub now though...). if I got another (non-Corsair) AIO, would I still be able to use the Commander Core for its RGB hub functionality for the fans? Any likelihood of iCUE throwing a fit over a missing Corsair pump, or another RGB software running at the same time?
  8. I added some rubber washers/dampeners to the AM4 screw mounts. I can't tell if it's made much difference, maybe 10% reduction in the hum but I could be imagining it. Poking the screws with a screwdriver definitetly makes a difference though, the resonance is completely aborbed. It's just hard to make that happen automatically! I was trying to find competely rubberised AM4 mounting kits, but haven't had much luck yet.
  9. I'm afraid that's how these pumps sound - there's a big thread going with a lot of people expressing the same complaints. I'm rocking a h115i Elite Capellix and have the same limited noisy options you describe, it's not great! This is the only AIO I've ever used, so I can't speak to the noise levels of other pumps, but from what I understand the RGB Pro (not XT) pump is operating on a previous pump design (Asetek rather than CoolIt), which allows for more diversity in the RPM settings. Take this with a grain of salt though - it's hard to find official information on this stuff, plus online anecdotes seem to vary, so might be worth gathering as much information as possible to prevent yourself wasting money/time on something that will be just as noisy. :/ (And Corsair's naming conventions don't help! So many variants with similar names.)
  10. I'd try reseating the cooler, it might be misaligned or not secured properly. One year though? I've never had to reapply thermal paste to any of my PC's over several years of use. Seems unnecessary, unless AIO paste dries out quicker?
  11. Are you sure the fans are noisy on idle, or is it just the pump? I've seen posts from users complaining about z73 noise too, but you get so many contradictory comments on all these AIO's that it's really hard to get a clear picture.
  12. My h115i Elite Capellix fans can get really loud in gaming too, especially in balanced mode. I keep them in quiet mode which stops them sounding like jet engines, and has a minimal impact on temps (2-3C at most). Between the fans and the pump, these AIO's are pretty ridiculous in the noise department. :/
  13. Ryzens do run a little hot, and they spike the voltage for increased clock speeds which can lead to high fluctuations in temperature. I had the same concerns with my 3700X, but installing the AMD drivers and setting the power management profile to Ryzen Balanced helped a bit.
  14. That is snug! Also envious that your P1 connector is nicely lined up with that grommet, I got some custom PSU cables but the motherboard power connector is kind of bang in the middle between those grommets, so the amount of twisting needed looked awful. Ended up reverted to the stock PSU cable. But yeah, a 360mm rad will only mount at the front (280mm max for the top), and you won't get a 330mm GPU in with a front radiator installed. :/
  15. Yeah, for me there's kind of two sounds. A low rumble and a higher pitched hum. The speed increases the volume and pitch of the hum, but the rumble seems more noticable at the lower speeds. I run it on balanced as it's the best / least-bad middleground between the two.
  16. I was debating vertical GPU mounting and whether that might help with temps too, especially with bottom intake and top exhaust fans. The case vertical mounts are stupidly close to the side glass so I would consider those unusable, especially for a chonky 3000 series card, but maybe a custom bracket using the rear slots could work. Slightly expensive experiment to perform though. :)
  17. Yeah that's awesome, thanks for the comparison. Can't say I'm a big fan of the hex cutouts, and it's intereting that it didn't make much thermal difference. Perhaps it would be more beneficial if you didn't already have bottom case fans. I'm definitely planning on getting some extra fans before the summer hits. How does it look without any front panel at all?
  18. I have a Commander Core and a Lighting Node Pro (no Commander Pro), and I can use iCUE just fine. My current setup is this: 2x 140mm ML AIO fans connected to Commander Core for Power and RGB 3x 120mm LL case fans connected to Commander Core for Power and RPM control, and Lighting Node for RGB 1x 120mm non-RGB case fan connected directly to motherboard. To be honest I didn't really know what I was doing when I set it up, first time with RGB, so it might not be optimal. :) I'm not sure the LN Pro is needed but it came with the case and I didn't want to confuse things by removing it. It all works fine though. The only thing I don't seem to be able to do is set zero-RPM mode for the LL case fans. I'm not sure if this is a fan limitation, or a Commander Core limitation, but they're not fans I'd ever really want to turn off. Just thought it might be worth mentioning.
  19. Can confirm, AIO fans work in zero RPM, but the 680X front panel (LL) fans that I have hooked into the CC don't allow zero RPM. No biggie, they're pretty quiet compared to the pump! Definitely loud when they ramp up in speed though.
  20. Tried swapping the USB header with the front panel? Assuming they're both USB2.0, you might be able to narrow it down to being a dodgy port. Otherwise maybe a motherboard BIOS update would be next on my list.
  21. Sounds strange - sounds like the Commander Core is the issue, assuming the fans are hooked up to it. (are they?) Have you checked the USB and SATA power connections to the Commander Core?
  22. I got a response back from Corsair support: --- I asked the cooling team, but it appears, unlike older coolers where the pump flow was via firmware, in these newer coolers the noise is the hardware itself (cannot be changed via firmware) they were built to run a lot faster than our other ones. so the lowest setting is the low profile that is set in icue, apologies for any inconvenience, thank you --- Bit of a bummer!
  23. Yeah mine is AM4. Tried to think of some ways to dampen the socket but it's not the easiest. You've got the stock mounting brackets on the motherboard with two screws, perhaps they could be dampened with washers. The latch/screw locks for the cooler itself are a bit more awkward.
  24. Thanks! At least a potential fallback. I reached out to Corsair support to mention this issue and asked if a firmware update might be on the table, we'll see on that... I wondered if this might be the case, I tried tightening any motherboard and case screws I could find, which didn't really make much difference. Tried pressing on various parts of the case to see if it affected the sound, and sometimes it seemed like it did, but then I'd turn my head and the rumble would still be there. Pressing a screwdriver to the AM4 locking screw noticeably reduces the hum (not so much the rumble) though. Maybe some rubber washers could help, but I don't fancy dismantling it at the moment. :| What RPM do those run on in quiet mode? My h115i seems to run at about 2250 for me. Goes up by about 200 on balanced, and another 200 on extreme. The sound difference seems quite high considering how minimal of an RPM change it is! I bet even 2000RPM would be significantly quieter.
