I did another test apparently switching off the PSU (even without unplugging it) is enough to make it revert to default settings in other words you just need to keep the PSU on for it to remember settings (if there's a power outage then should also revert but I ain't got that prob cause I've a UPS)
  3. if the AXi series' anything like the RMi then yes BUT if you switch off the PSU itself - even without unplugging it - then it will revert to default settings btw how come multirail makes your PC crash? (is it a special config?)
  4. nope the fan on the RMi series is a true FDB (fluid dynamic bearing) fan and the one on the RMx series is only rifle-bearing fan (shorter lifespan which is why it's set to 0db mode to preserve life cause you can't afford to have a rifle-bearing fan spinning all the time)
  5. I've the RM750i (and the same sort of case with the new 'PSU at the top' design ie. Corsair Carbide 600q) and apparentlsettings are permanent if you disable 0db mode in Corsair Link then uninstall Corsair Link then fan still spins in idle and if you reboot (with or without uninstalling CLink) then fan is still spins and if you reboot into another OS the fan still spins in other words to re-enable 0db mode you've to reinstall CLink & reenable it from there so maybe one of the Corsair engineers can confirm but apparently the settings are "remember" by the PSU itself btw I left the PSU on/off switch to ON. I think if you remove the PSU (remove it from PC & unplug it from wall) and wait for a while the PSU "forgets" the custom settings & reverts to default 0db mode setting tbh it'd be better if they just put a physical fan switch on the PSU itself (one of my 3 PSU's is a Seasonic & it has that fan mode switch 0db/hybrid)
  6. But why even have 0 fan mode then? FDB fans make no noise and if they last that long why not keep them on minimum speed n keep PSU temps down

But a true FDB is still a type of sleeve bearing right? :confused: Consensus on overclocker forums is even the best sleeve bearing tech cant last as long as double ball bearing (cause friction or something) they say the only reason DBB aint used all the time is cause they make a bit more noise then FDB for some people silence is more important btw I've also a Corsair VX550 which I used for 7 years non-stop 24/7 on a server (now I keep it as one of my test/backup PSU's along with a Seasonic) and the fan is a DBB not noisy and show no sign of age ... if it was a FDB fan would it have last that long?
  8. So the fan on the RMi series are control by both temp AND load? If so that's more of a reason to leave fan on 0-fan mode I guess but the problem is my case is a bit weird it got the PSU at the top which means I gotta leave the fan on (cause the hot air rises ... basically the PSU acts as a second rear exhaust fan) But that raises another problem since it's only a FDB fan (and not double ball bearing cause these last forever) will leaving the fan on 24/7 kill the fan prematurely? here I set it to 40% minimum (can't go below that apparently) so basically it spins at least 40% speed all the time is this bad for an FDB fan?

  10. alrite so when PSU load increases (eg. run prime95 & furmark at same time) how come PSU sensor #2 (the one reported by CLink) barely goes up? it stays around 35°C maybe an extra °C or so on the other hand sensor #1 (the one not shown by CL) goes up by about 7°C

  15. k never heard of ICUE (sounds like they basically renamed CL) gonna check it out weird that the app with the old name's still available for download on their site though +_- edit> WTF that new app is huge over 300mb is there a "trimmer" version? I just wanna monitor the PSU nothing else

  17. yeah that's mine too v4.9.9.3 original setup exe DL'ed from Corsair so that version's buggy apparently can't correctly read sensors at least not on RMi series any way to report this sort of bug? so they can fix it
  18. well here I use CL too with my RMi & it only shows 1 sensor (the false sensor at that) so unfortunately I can't use CL & I've to use 3rd party to show the correct sensor :/ (Aida shows both the real & false sensor readings) what's your CL version?
  19. can PSU fans easily be replaced by users? (I assume it's gotta be a "case fan" type) the only thing I read is that it has to be a non-PWM fan cause a PWM fan can damage a PSU if so I might consider replacing with a maglev fan since those are supposed to be "immortal" even more durable than DBB (and more silent than FDB)
  20. k TY minimum fan mode it is then :sunglasse I just wish they used ball-bearings (are ball bearings more expensive then fluid dynamic bearings? is that why they prefer FDB? cause I know for fact that a GOOD double-ball bearing is almost as silent as FDB so noise is no longer a reason. DBB is superior to FDB so logic says FDB should disappear in favour of DBB unless DBB is way way more expensive then FDB) but my main concern's still dust - if heavy dust builds up how does that affect temperature inside the PSU? (how much more °C for a dust-ridden PSU? assuming fan continues operating at same minimum speed I mean)
  21. I noticed about 5-6°C increase when disabling fan (under full CPU+GPU load which is around 250W. I have an RM750i) sensor #1 went from 41°C to about 47°C but it's not full summer yet so I may be looking at a PSU temperature of around 50°C on highest load in peak summer if I disable fan - plus I might upgrade from GTX1070 to GTX1080 which will add another 30W on full load, dunno how many more Celsius this will translate to so is a temp of 50-55°C safe for a PSU? Corsair tends to privilege silence over cooling so I'm not sure fan will kick in, should I force the minimum fan mode? lol it's just that I've got an old VX550 (still keep it as a backup) bought it in 2009 and by 2016 (when I stopped using it regulerly) the inside's literally smothered in dust after just 7y use - dunno how this affects lifespan but that much dust dont look good this suggests dust buildup is inevitable from the moment I leave the fan on right? :confused: ps. also the VX550 has a double ball-bearing fan so these last almost forever & still not much noise from that one either so if the RMi had the same fan I wouldn't be concerned about lifespan but since it's only an FDB fan I've to take that into account as well as the dust if I leave the server on 24/7 with the RMi's FDB fan on 40% minimum mode, how long will that fan last? so all things considered do you think I should force the fan at minimum speed or leave it on default 0 fan mode?
  22. so my RMi is in a very special case it's the ones with the new design where the PSU is at the top of the case (Corsair carbide 600C inverse design) so this is a bit of a dilemma because since PSU is at top of the case, the heat will rise & reach the PSU (that's the only drawback of such a design IMO else I prefer the new inverse design, better for cable management) so my question is, should I leave fan on default zero mode anyway (even though rising heat will be trapped in PSU) or enable minimum 40% fan mode? (when I leave it on, I notice that the air exhausted out of the PSU is quite warm:this means dangerous hot air is reaching it right?) I'm tempted to enable minimum fan mode but that in turn poses TWO potential problems: 1) fan lifespan: the RMi only uses fluid dynamic bearing which is basically a fancy sleeve bearing, tougher than basic sleeve but no match for double ball bearings (like those of seasonic) in other words I reckon it's dangerous to leave an FDB fan operating 24/7 right? this will wear down the fan more quickly cause it's not a ball bearing fan 2) DUST buildup: any fan speed even a small one will inevitably lead to dust inside the PSU right? so the PSU will heat up over time even with the fan on because of dust which btw is the main reason I hesitate to enable minimum fan mode so there's the dilemma what is best for PSU (both power supply itself and fan) lifespan in my specific config: enable or disable zero fan mode?
  23. can Aida64 read CL info better than CL software itself? :bigeyes: Aida64 shows TWO sensors: Power Supply #1 & Power Supply #2 (PS. interestingly the #1 seems to be always hotter than #2) But Corsair Link only shows ONE sensor (apparently the one that corresponds to Power Supply #2 in Aida64) I can understand if CL only picks one sensor to show (the one that matters the most) but here it's not the case because Aida's sensor #1 is obviously the important one I know cause I launched Prime95 + Furmark: in Aida64 only sensor #1 heated up, sensor #2 stayed the same (so it's a false sensor???) so is that a bug in CLink if so can it be fixed? I rather use CL than Aida64
