xenol
Just got an H80i installed and ran into a few issues. It's not being detected by Corsair LinkThe temperatures seem higher than expected. Regarding not being detected, I've tried everything from reinstalling the software (various versions), using another USB header, to even using a Micro USB to USB-A cable and plugging it into a regular port. Windows does pick it up as I see Device Manager spazz out. Regarding temperatures, I feel like it's not cooling as well as it should. While it does stabilize, my motherboard reports 45-48C (though I think it prevents the CPU from going into a lower power state). HW Monitor reports 35C about. Under load it ramps up to 70C with the fans on maximum. If I run Prime95, it struggles to stay below 85C and if I overclock the processor to go to 4.0GHz, it will trip thermal thresholds. I don't know if it's my processor or not, but it seems very finicky with spikes of temperature. The temperature here's been about 25C. I'm pretty sure I installed it properly, as the unit is firmly on the CPU and the mounting screws won't go in any tighter. I even pressed against it a little bit (I do this as a test sometimes if I suspect I botched up a heatsink in stall on those awful Intel mounting clips) but nothing changes. At the moment I have one fan as an exhaust plugged into the motherboard (otherwise the fan would always be running something like 50%-70% all the time) While I'm throwing this in a BitFenix Prodigy, I doubt the cramped spaces is making the temperatures this bad. wytnyt
have you checked in bios to insure the pump is running @2200 rpm? are you running the software for 8.1?
xenol
Yup, if I connect the pump to the motherboard it reads 2200RPM. As for 8.1 software... I picked up 2.4.something from the website. I also got this from Newegg, if it matters.
wytnyt
use this software, its designed for 8.1 and please read the footnotes http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=118617
xenol
That solved the Corsair Link problem! Thanks. I'll tinker with my setup some more about temps. I probably might need a few more fans.
wytnyt
oh you can never have too many fans;): glad you got it going
Dragynfyre
What CPU do you have? I just installed my H80i on my i5-4670K @stock a couple days ago and I get 65-66C load temps in prime95 with both small and large FFTs. Fan speed was at around 1100-1200RPM. I also have a Node 304 case which is even smaller than the Prodigy. Also I only have 2x92mm fans for intake and the 2x120mm fans on my H80i for exhaust. xenol
I have a 4670K as well. I reapplied the TIM with some AS5. However, I ran Prime95 again and the CPU slowly ramped up to 90C (I cut it off there). I only have one 120mm fan for intake at the moment. But I seriously doubt that that's the problem. The only thing that concerns me is when I installed the standoffs to the rear bracket, the rear bracket still had some give to it but not the standoffs, if that makes sense. I'm having this feeling I've installed it wrong, like it's a fraction of a millimeter up but the screws won't go down any further. I saw that the old TIM at least worked, but I dunno. It's really odd that Prime95 is essentially failing here.
Insomniack
The only thing that concerns me is when I installed the standoffs to the rear bracket, the rear bracket still had some give to it but not the standoffs, if that makes sense. That's fine, as long as there's no play in it when the pump is screwed down. And there's two small notches in the backplate, they should line up with the two exposed socket screws at the back of the motherboard. Try running it with the side cover off and see if temps improve dramatically, and try gently pushing on the pump while running and see if the temps change. xenol
Do where those notches line up matter? Also pushing on the pump didn't seem to do much. What I also find strange is the H80i temp is slow to raise up (about a few degrees every minute or so if I use P95)... I'm assuming this is from the radiator end but I'd expect to see it raise a little quicker.
Insomniack
Do where those notches line up matter? Yes, they matter. It stops the backplate from shorting out, and if the screws were long enough from not sitting correctly.
xenol
Then I would be correct in assuming this may affect how tightly pressed the pump is against the processor?
wytnyt
Then I would be correct in assuming this may affect how tightly pressed the pump is against the processor? yes and more importanly having the little notches facing up ensures the pump sits evenly... http://www.legitreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/corsair_h100i_26-300x199.jpg heres a nice write-up you may want to browse thru http://www.legitreviews.com/corsair-hydro-series-h100i-extreme-performance-cpu-cooler-review_124024
xenol
Welp that did it. I installed the backplate upside down. Just to make sure, I had it go up to 4.0GHz turbo and ran 25 rounds of Prime 95 and it settled (albeit a bit high at 85C but it settled) Corsair should add a warming or something to that effect. Sure, the picture shows it in the correct orientation, but if it fits, it must work right? :D
