AF140 Quiet Edition LOUD

A few days ago, I thought my PC was way too loud and got myself 2 AF140 Quiet Editions with the LEDs.

Now i can say, my system is unbearably loud. What I dont understand is that after watching some videos and reading some reviews, I dont understand how people can say these are quiet. Did I just get a bad batch?

loudness cant be perceived very differently among users, what you think is loud, others may not.

most any quality cfm fan will generate noise if ran at full sped,if it doesnt then honestly its a useless fan

that all being said are you just running them full speed?,controlling the fan speed can keep it quiet until temps/load demands more cooling ability...

Completely understand, but how a quiet edition fan that I am hearing through videos make the same noise as 5 different fans is beyond me.

I don't know about the 140 or the ones with LEDs, but the AF120 only do 1,100RPM, they're dead quiet.

They also come with a voltage resistor to slow it down, although I can't imagine needing it.

Yeah, thats strange. The AF140 LED runs at 1100RPM and i can hear it outside my room. Hell, I can walk up the stairs just outside my room and still hear it. Can you do this?

tried having them outside your case? sometimes it could be the way the fans are mounted or an object too close to the fan or even touching the blades

Good call!

WuMyster I guess i should RMA it then. Im just having doubts because of me receiving two that are like this

I doubt it's the fans that are faulty. If you have a smart phone you can download a Decible app to see how loud they are. If it were a bad run of them there would most certainly be other complaints.

You have to be careful with sound pressure measurements. They are both distance and environment dependent. Then you also need to account for the accuracy of the device. Most specification data is based on the results taken in a anechoic chamber. You cannot compare those values to anything taken in your room. The only real value with this is comparing different fans in the same environment, with the same device.

All fans are loud at 1600 rpm. However, the AF120 should be quieter than most other 120mm fans at that same speed. Very few fans are pleasing at 100%, so unless you are in dire need of a 1C reduction in ambient temperature, keep it below 90%. 80% is likely more comfortable with minimal loss.

I have to put them on 50%, if higher they are extremely loud. On 50% I can still hear them. They are louder than my High Performance fan placed in the back.

does your case have a fan grill ?

I noticed when I first got my af120's they were super loud at full bore in the case sat between my legs on the floor, i put some filter stuff on the case and bingo they were quiet, of course they get louder over time with dust on the filters but that just means its time to clean the case out again /

with the af140rgb fan i'm getting all sorts of dodgy things (like it registering as 4000 rpm then spiking to over 60k) and a nice sound like chirping crickets (going to replace the damn thing tomorrow) but it worked fine before that for a while (problem caused by new water cooler pipes putting pressure on the centre that stopped the fan moving while it was trying to go full bore, hey ho such is life)
