Corsair DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-10600

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-1E2. Currently it has 4GB (2x2GB) of RAM.

I decided i needed an upgrade and so i used the Crucial memory advisor to find out whether i could increase the RAM. They recommended an 8GB kit of (2x4GB).

I took the information of the RAM they recommended and searched through the web to find what i needed. I picked up some new (still in original packaging) Corsair kit which i matched up the information on.

I installed the new pieces and once everything was put back together i switched it on. In the BIOS, the new memory was recognised. However, when going through the start up, it gets to the windows loading page and the laptop freezes up.

After seeking the advice of my grandfather, i replaced the old memory back in the laptop and everything worked fine.

After checking through the specs again i found that the crucial website recommended memory for 1.35V and the pieces i have bought are 1.5V. Other than this every other number is the same in the specs.

However, i have been rooting around trying to find out what the motherboard is in my machine and so have installed a utility called CPU-Z, the memory modules (the current ones) are all running at 1.5V.

I'm rather perplexed about the whole situation, if anyone out there can advise me it would make my christmas.

Ok, so the part number of the kit is CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9

I have tried resetting the bios from within, however, i am currently searching the web for some schematics for the LT, possibly reset by cmos jumper. I may well get round to it later on tomorrow.

The CPU is Intel Core i3 380M

Ok, the numbers on the chips are as follows - 512M8DCJG

ELB0301347. That is on all the chips, the two modules also have separate numbers on their chips

The first one is F328X8BR644S

The second one is F334X8BR7401.

Each module has a total of 8 chips, 4 on each side.

Because the laptop got through POST, the memory was properly recognized in BIOS, and the boot to Windows process began I suspect the memory is OK for the laptop. You may want to try booting using the F8 key and use one of the diagnostic boot options (I am not sure which one to use).

You may ultimately have to reinstall Windows.

There should be no reason to have too reinsrtall windows because of a memory swap. besides the OP stated everything was fine when adding the old memory back to the system which are 256MB IC's

This system is limited based on CPU.The BIOS recognizing them doesn't mean a whole lot in this case.

Actually only Core I7 Quad channel series CPU's will support 64 Gig Core I5 D/C CPU's are limited to 32 Gig because of the number of slots and Core I3 only support 16 Gig of memory and the modules have to made with IC's no larger than 256 X8 Memory IC's so that would 4.0 Gig double rank modules or 16 Gig total. If the MB you have only has two slots then you would be limited to 8.0 Gig of Ram for Core I3 CPU's

I would argue that the CPU is fine with the memory because it's the CPU that executes the code contained in the BIOS. Because, in the OP's case, the CPU runs the BIOS initialization routines, correctly initializes the hardware, and begins Windows start-up I still say that the memory is integrating just fine the laptop.

It is also the CPU that designates memory types and IC size too. I'm sorry this has been proven over and over again here in these forums with the I3 CPU's.

The newer I3's may be different, but the first /second gens are limited to memory made with 256mb IC's despite the BIOS seeing them. I can assure you, i have had numerous conversations with Ramguy about this. It's also why i posted the link to his response concerning CPU limitations.
