random shutdowns of the psu when playing BF4

Hello,

I just build together a new pc and was trying out BF4 , then after like 10min or 20min(random) The pc shutdowns and the red led appears on my PSU ax860i, i can get the PSU up and running again, but i don't have a idea what the problem could be. various forums say , it might be the GPU or CPU from overheating or it could be bad psu or MoBo. only tried playing BF4 a couple of times since those shutdowns of the psu cant be good for the system

Now the r9 290x can get very hot like around 95Celsius, so in order to bring the temp a bit down, i have increased the fan speeds with the catalyst manager and now its around 90C, so that should take care of that part. (crossfire setup)

For the cpu it says it around 70Celsius, so that also couldn't be a problem.

I also checked the motherboard for any damage to the capacitors, they all look fine to me.

For the PSU ax860I, could it be that it cant give enough power to the vcards or is there something wrong with PSU itself.

since am not sure on all 4 parts and am not working on a daily base with building pcs together, i might have overlooked some things.

I hope this is enough info to explain my problem.

just checked on psu calculator and it say minimum psu of 685watts recommended 735watts but that is without your fans or any overclocking. have you tried the self test button on the psu. if not unplug all cables from psu and press self test button to see if its ok. you could try having the psu fan going to see if it is getting to hot just some ideas.

when a gpu gets to hot it will just down clock and the game will stutter, the cpu temp you posted is ok also.

that psu has plenty of power for your system, if the motherboard had a problem you would most likely just have a hard crash or bsod. so I would submit an RMA for another psu as I think it is defective and is shutting down to protect further damage to itself due to it not being able to provide enough power under load or it is getting to hot as it's just a defective unit.

do you have a voltmeter to connect to a spare sata power cable and see what the voltage reading is just before it shuts down?

when using a calculator, the min. takes into account the usual running components such as fans ect,of course not if you got a couple dozen...:D:

thx for the fast reply everyone.

zero overclocking, but I did putt the vcard on the "ubermode" setting. if there was a overheating problem I could just increase the fanspeed.

i have tried the self test button before putting all the pc parts into the case

and it went to green. so to me it should be "ok". but then again you can never be sure.

i used the corsair link program but there was no voltage drops. sadly i don't have a voltmeter, so i cant check it via a sata power cable.

Guess i will go back to the pc shop and get a new psu.

ty for all the sollutions/suggestions.

i will try to post in a couple of days if the problem is fixed or not.
