Corsair XMS2 cm2x1024-8500c5(1066) ddr2 issues.

Hey all, I am having a bit of a memory issue.

First, these are the mem modules I have;

http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/ddr2-and-ddr3-memory-round-up_Page-4

And this is my motherboard;

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A76CM/

As far as I know my board supports DDR2 up to 1066mhz, but I do know some boards don't support speeds that high and I can't find out for sure if my board does or not.

The memory works. Sometimes. When I originally put it in I had to reset my BIOS to get my system to boot with it installed. Since then I have only had successful boots approximately 1 in every 5 attempts.

So I pulled the memory and put different memory in, and it boots no problem at all, the same way it's always booted.

I am not sure if it's the Corsair mem I listed above and my mobo not jiving, or what. I know it's not in conflict with other memory because I tried it in my system by itself as a pair.

I ran several passes in memtest also and no errors. The reason I bought(second hand) the mem was to bring my rig up to 6GB so I would be able to play CoD Ghosts. I have patched it to run with 4GB but it crashes a lot still and I can't afford new mem right now. I am actually half way thru now and was able to use the Corsair mem in conjunction with the other mem in my system but I haven't been able to boo at all today> Well, I was able to once I pulled the Corsair.

Any ideas?

That information is right on the page you linked to

Max. 8GB Dual channel DDR2 1066 Memory

The memory is compatible , however it's not a good idea to mix and match memory. Chances are it's just not playing well with yor current memory.

Have you updated your BIOS at all? If not please do

Have you tried to set them manually ?

What are your exact settings for the memory?

Well the memory has been in the system without any other memory and still giving me the issues.

As for compatibility, I was reading somewhere but I lsot the link when my system blue screened and it didn't save in my history, that my particular board may be compatible but sometimes has issues with that speed.

So that is why I asked since I couldn't find the link again.

My BIOS is current.

I will fire the mem in again later and check how it is setup in the bios. I can actually get into to the BIOS, it just hangs after I attempt to load Windows 8 or Win 7.

Thank you so much for your replies, I'll be around laterish to provide more info. :biggrin:

your ram is a mishmosh. its like having different size tires on a car, they roll but the steering is off the road.

best bet is getting a single kit of the capacity you desire im sorry to say.

if you really want to test the ram, test 1 stick at a time with memtest (link on left) and reset the bios to defaults before each stick.

also with an ASUS board you must disable legasy USB in the bios before testing as it can through false errors.

As mentioned twice, I got the same results with only the pair of Corsairs in and none of the other memory.

I do agree with you tho, it is better not to mix memory, but in this case mixing wasn't an issue. I also did narrow it down to one stick, like I mentioned in my second post.

So at this point I think it's that stick.

Sorry to hear that. Normally i would suggest an RMA but I'm sorry to tell you that they are not covered when bought second hand. I hope you didn't have too much into them and can at least go back on the seller.

$25 for the pair. So I am not out much. I'll grab som more mem in the new year I suppose.
