I have a ASUS R3BE (x58), i7-970 cpu, 2 4gig gskill ram sticks, 128 c300 ssd, 750gig WD black, 4 120mm fans (including the cpu).

I can run 2 R9 290x in crossfire with no issues.

But i can not run a single 480 gtx stably i have 4 of them and none of them work correctly in that system.

Back when i first got this PS I RMA'ed it 2 times because it would not power my old Nforce 4 P4 dual core 3.0ghz i forget the name 830 i think. with a single 280gtx.

I ended up just buying a new PC power and cooling PS everything worked.

So now i would like to use this PS for a 480gtx and it cant power this? i'm confused I figured it was just because the old Nforce 4 and P4 just pulled too much on the 3.3v rail and it couldent be powered but now i guess its the 12v that cant handle the gpu's?? But I mean i dont really think its a faulty PS because all 3 of these PS were new so this must be just the way they are?

I went circles with corsair about my system and there only solution was a new RMA...

Anyways ideas? Is this model PS just that weak? or is possible i just got 3 new PS that were all defective?

No that system uses an older ATX spec than what the newer Corsair PSU support. It has nothing to do with "enough power"

As far as the GPU is concerned a single 480 uses about 250w and an your 290x in Xfire can use upwards of 500w or better. So it's not a case of not enough available power or being too weak. PSU'S dont work that way. Seeing as one card runs fine and the others won't it has to be a software conflict or driver issue somewhere. Possibly even a bad MB.
