kosmas0
Hello everyone.I just installed my new RM1000 and I can hear a high pitch sound (not sure if its called like that) constantly, but only if I stick my ear behind the PSU.The fan is not working when idle of course, but I never thought of sticking my ear behind a PSU before  .Is this something normal for a PSU or do I have to worry about it? The unit works perfectly. Thanks in regard.
Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted December 16, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 16, 2013 Are you sure the sound is coming from the PSU? When does it do this? When it's "off" (standby) or while the PC is running in Windows, etc.?
kosmas0
I am sure its coming from the PSU.I can hear it as soon as I start my PC.
Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted December 16, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 16, 2013 So you here it once the PC is on, but not when the PC is in stand by? Does it happen if you only have one of your graphics cards installed?
kosmas0
I hear as soon as I press the "on" button. It happens even without graphic cards or my sounds card. It's like "I am now working" sound. As I said,I have to stick my ear, else its zero sound. Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted December 16, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 16, 2013 Well, I doubt it's anything serious. A lot of PSUs make buzzing or hissing noises, but the RM Series was supposed to address any of those noises.
kosmas0
Thanks for the responses jonnyguru.I just counted the noise (with a semi-pro tool)and its 7-9db.Indeed, I hope it is not an indication for an upcoming failure.
kosmas0
I read somewhere that newly built psus can make this low noise sound for 1-4 weeks because the capasitors are still new.Is this thing true?
