I purchased my PC from ibuypower about over year ago past couple days even in idle temps are hitting 77-81c each core, normal temps have been 37-42c idle.Today after turning on for first time i let it sit for about an hour got up to 92c all cores,im not sure if the pump is going bad n need to replace or what. I keep it clean from dust with compressed air, couple friends said try some new themeral compound see if that works but just want other opinions before i just buy new one.

I put in a RMA for the pump but have no idea on how to remove it since i didn't build this PC i think i have a clue from reading installation just want to know when to remove and send in for rma.

Don't waste your time with anything that has a cure time. We are in 2013 fixing to be 2104. We are long past cure times. If it has a cure time it should be removed from the market. MX-4 is pretty easy to get and is a great thermal paste. But it sounds like the ram fins are probably clogged from dust. Get a air compressor or compressed air and spray it in the rad on both side to remove all the dust out of it.

The mx-2 on best buys site is perfectly fine. And it is cheap also if you need to do the paste. But clean it first and then try it. So the place where you bought it overclocked your pc for you when you purchased it? Very interesting for them to do that.

Every thermal compound aside from the phase change metals (like Indigo Xtreme) has a cure time. The reason for this is the paste has to be liquid in order to spread and apply evenly. That liquid needs to be evaporated so the paste can efficiently do it's work. Older pastes used emulsifiers that took awhile to evaporate (like Arctic Silver 5), but newer ones require very little curing time (usually 10 to 15 minutes at most).

To the OP, I've actually read several reviewers that "resorted" to using the Best Buy stuff and they have said that it's actually pretty good stuff. You are probably pretty safe using it and it should perform pretty well.

You were right to RMA. The whole point of buying from an iBuyPower or other boutique is to not have to handle this yourself. This doesn't sound like a thermal paste problem, either; they would've used the thermal paste that came preapplied to the cooler. It sounds like the pump might have been going.
