H100i and 8.1... Again.

First, there are many of us that are successfully running the H100i under Corsair Link on Windows 8.1. If you perform the Registry changes mentioned in the forum, there is a very good chance that you will be able to run Corsair Link and control your H100i.

The H100i has a default profile/program that will control it and the fans connected to it, even if Corsair Link is never loaded.

As to whether it will be safe to overclock YOUR system and run games, only you will be able to determine that based on the temperatures that you have while doing this.

Shouldn't they be getting close to releasing a driver now? It has been a good while now. And with windows 8.2 coming out it may break the driver again.

they should just wait till microsoft can get their act together and come out with 8.9 and then work on the software.

with all the screwed up OS'S microsoft has released in the past, one would think they would have learned by now.

win 8,8.1,8.2 really where does it end with a workable OS?

nooooo, no more waiting dude, i got the h100i for a reason!

corsair has to be able to pump out timely updates. you can't blame that on microsoft ofrever. it's not like corsair is a crappy company run out of someone's basement. given their success and the quality their brand stands for, they should be able to afford to throw a bit of priority on this issue, it's been TOO long.

saying they should wait more is crazy (not that they would be listening to either of us anyway)

I do not understand why people are afraid of doing the registry change, i installed a h100i on a system with Windows 8.1, preformed the changed (took less then 30 sec) and rebooted. All up and running with no issues.

It does not work for everyone and for many it works sporadically.

I made the changes and the H100i still did not show. I reverted/reinstalled and nothing worked. So I NEED a patch from Corsair to use the H100i with Link.

While it's easy to blame Microsoft, lets not forget this is the HOST OS, and that it is Corsair's responsibility to adapt to it. Let's also not forget it's not like the Windows 8.1 update just popped up overnight... it's been in beta/preview form for months prior to release final release! In short.... it was no surprise this was being released.

Anyway, yeah, the registry hack works. Hopefully Corsair releases an updated version which doesn't require any hacks to work with Windows 8.1.

And yeah, you don't have to have Link 2 installed for your H100i to work at it's default settings. What ever those may be?

We shouldn't have to do unnecessary registry hacks to get software running. All of us are not coder's. And, if registry hacks are done wrong, they could render the system useless, requiring an OS reinstall.

And yeah, while there is a high probability that those using these coolers are tech savvy, that doesn't always translate to the software coding side. And yes, as simple as it sounds, you are in effect re-writing/altering code.

Anyway while I'm fairly comfortable working with the registry, I take precautions to insure I can undo what I've done, to include backing up the registry... something I'm sure some don't even know how to do.

And I doubt Corsair, or any company, would want to sell products with the caveat that they must hack their OS in order for the software to work. Even some PC enthusiasts would find that a bit too much.

As for the fix not working, I believe the reason for its "spottiness" is the fact the registry key isn’t the same for everyone as discussed here: http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120962&highlight=windows+8.1, thus another reason not to expect everyone to just willy nilly use a registry hack.

As I said before though I’m fairly comfortable in the registry, this was a bit intimidating as I had to find, and insure, I had the right key to hack.

So yeah, playing in the registry without knowing what you’re doing or looking for can be dangerous.

My two cents.

ya i agree.... i was ready to be patient but it's just been too long. especially with NO update from corsair. if at least they said, 'we encountered a snag, here's a BETA fix try it out but we need more time' would be better than nothing.

as things stand, i don't even know if they are working on it at all. technically they don't have much incentive...
