jenhansen
How would I tell if I have a faulty power supply? I just built my first htpc. It turns off without warning. Actually, it appears to hibernate, because when I start it back up all it restores everything that was active when it unexpectedly just turned off. My specs are in my profile and repeated below: OS: Win 8 Pro PSU: Corsair CX430 Power Supply RAM: 8 GB Team Vulcan RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... CPU: AMD A8-5600 Trinity Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 I am booting from a 120GB Kingston SSD, and have a couple of old drives on there as well for storage. I built this in an old HP case I had laying around. I have just been configuring this thing so far, so no real heavy loads. I downloaded CoreTemp to see if my CPU overheating, but it doesn't get a read on my CPU. I have to go to Bios to see my temps, but I haven't seen anything above 45C. I am still in the process of troubleshooting this thing so haven't even closed up the case and it is really cold right now in Northern CA. I'm not feeling any real heat coming out of the case. I have reseated all the cards and power cables to no avail. I also changed out the power cord just in case. Kind of at the end of my rope here. Assistance appreciated. JKeifer
If you have the luxury of having another power supply available, swap the other one in your system for a while and see how it works.
