XMP/ 1600mhz cant enable

Hi,

I had been using a dual channel 4GBx2 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 v.2.12 for almost 3 years, and yesterday, 1 of them failed, getting BSODs , cant boot, etc, ran memtest and there was more than 10000 errors, so i got a new 4GB stick CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 v.2.12, i thought it would start without any hiccups, when i went into bios, the XMP option was grayed out, and when i install the sticks separately, everything was fine, can enable XMP, can boot in 1600mhz, but when i put the 2 sticks together, i cant get XMP to work (disabled) and when i manually adjust the timings and up the voltage a bit, it just keeps resetting back to 1333 mhz, what seems to be the problem here?? any help would be appreciated.

Specs:

Core i5 2500K..(stock)

MSI Z77a-g45, \

Seasonic X 750 KM3,

Assorted HDDS

Asus GTX 670 DCII

PS: i tried 3 different versions of mobo bios and nothing

This is often the case when you mix modules of different part numbers and versions. They are two totally different memories.

Really you should RMA the 8 gig kit and just run with the 4 gig stick temporarily until you get a matched set back.

Or you can try setting them manually, but there are no guarantees there . You may even have to lower the speed to 1333mhz for them to run together.

Just set the first four values, the speed, memory voltage to 1.6.

well i tried different voltages from 1.55 to 1.6 with no luck, and the main problem about RMA is that the heat spreaders came off, i dont know if thats covered under warranty, im now running both dimms at 1333 mhz CL 7 (7-7-7-21 @1T)

As long as you didn't remove them yourself they are covered. As a matter of fact some of the earlier Vengeance kits had trouble with the heatspreaders, so there shouldn't be any problem getting them replaced. Just be sure to post a not in the RMA form in the comments section so they know.
