big data
Hi, I ordered an 8GB set of CMY8GX3M2A1866C9R and specifically wanted the RED colored ones to go with my case. I received the sticks and they arrived in the correct boxes (with the picture showing the correct sticks of ram with the red colored shrouds), but the actual sticks had the silver colored shrouds. I explained the problem to Amazon and then ordered another set of the same Red Vengeance Pro. The replacement came but with exactly the same issue as before - right box, right sticker but wrong colored shroud! There is nothing wrong with the RAM as far as how it works. Ive not sent this second order back yet, but I just thought I would ask if this is normal and whether I should return it?
peanutz94
The sticker shows CMY8GX3M2A1866C9R? But they are silver? Any chance you could post pics of the box and the sticker on the memory?
big data
Hi peanutz, I'll post pics of all four sticks and the boxes they came in after the weekend (probably Monday as I'm going to be doing some swapping and changing then anyway). I would really like to know if this is common or I'm just incredibly unlucky to have this happen twice. edit- I will add that although the shrouds are silver the stickers on the boards are actually red. I just assumed its a production line mistake or something.
Administrators Technobeard Posted December 1, 2013 Administrators Share Posted December 1, 2013 Please post a pic of the modules.
peanutz94
It's actually unheard of. This is why Technobeard and myself asked if you could post pics just in case there is something they need to take care of. So if you could please wait to send them back it would be greatly appreciated... at least until Monday. Since TB jumped in I'm guessing they want to see those first hand. Administrators Technobeard Posted December 3, 2013 Administrators Share Posted December 3, 2013 Please post a pic that's zoomed in a bit so we can see the label clearly (lot code, etc), thanks.
big data
Please post a pic that's zoomed in a bit so we can see the label clearly (lot code, etc), thanks. Sure. I'll do a decent close up tomorrow. Just curious tho, what has caused them to have the incorrect color shroud? I purchased them from Amazon (not a different seller) so I'm sure they're not fake? big data
Sorry to bump the thread, but I just need to know if this is legit? Otherwise I'll return it to Amazon and get a new set.
Administrators Technobeard Posted December 5, 2013 Administrators Share Posted December 5, 2013 Looks legit to me, don't think it's a fake. I'd replace it with Amazon again, mainly because that's faster. If it happens again, fill out an RMA and state that it was just purchased and we'll cover shipping both ways (link to this thread). big data
OK thanks for the answer. Just out of curiosity though as its no longer an issue, if this is completely unheard of (as peanutz pointed out earlier), then how is it possible that it happened to me twice, with two separate orders, with 1 week in between each order? I cant find any other occurence of it happening, surely I cant be that unlucky? As I said its really no big deal, I'm just curious to see what you corsair guys think? peanutz94
I would have to think it was a limited production error. Maybe because you returned them so quick you got another kit out of that small batch. I have been here just about three years now and have never seen that happen before. The only issue I have ever seen related to the Veangence heat spreaders was when they first came out. There was a couple of reports of them becoming unglued to the memory modules. But that was it and that was addressed rather quickly. I can guarantee you that someone in production knows about it by now.
big data
Thx peanutz. I'm sure you are correct. I'm kind of in two minds about whether to return them or not. They are kind of unique in a way and they still look good :) BTW, its the first time Ive ordered the Pro version of Vengeance ram, so I'm not sure if the aluminum shroud is supposed to fit "loose" the way it does? (basically they rattle if you shake them). Thx again.
Administrators Technobeard Posted December 6, 2013 Administrators Share Posted December 6, 2013 Hi big data, I reported the issue internally and they'd like to see the memory and packaging. Check your email for details. Short answer: create a ticket and tell me the ticket number. If you get a sec, please post here (or to the ticket preferably) with a pic of the SPD screen from CPU-Z. big data
Hi, thx for the email. Here's a screenshot of cpu-z spd tab http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff259/cen0byte/CPU-Z.png I tried to create a ticket, but unfortunately it wouldnt let me complete it. I get to Select Part Number but for some strange reason you dont have my CMY8GX3M2A1866C9R on the list, and without filling that bit in i cant complete the ticket! You have the 1600 & 2133 Vengeance Pro but not 1866. TBH, I really am not that bothered about the color anymore (especially as they seem more rare now lol) and really would rather not go without them for whatever period it takes to get them back.
