Knight82
So I just sent my corsair 1200 ax in for rma. But figured I would post my problem anyway, I just got done building my new system. Spec's are in my signature. I was in the middle of playing cod: Ghost. All of a sudden my computer shut off didn't power down literally just shut it self off. Needless to say I freaked out. Anyway when I tried to turn it back on it would not turn back on. Just heard a click noise and no power. But the start / reset button on my asus rampage iv extreme board was still lit up. So after flipping the switch on and off a few times to see if I can get the click noise to repeat and it did. Every time I tried it. So after messing with it some more trying to figure out what is wrong. Decided to use a psu tester and it was fried, so pulled the power supply out and trying the fan jumper test and that didn't work either. So what I am actually getting to is, does anyone know if I have anything to worry about? Think anything else is fried ? ( I am hoping nothing else is damaged from this faulty power supply ) I do not have a extra power supply to even test to make sure there is no damage. P.S Sorry for the miss spelling / Grammer I am trying this on my phone and auto correct is kicking my butt The computer has only been used about 3 hour's tops before the power supply died
peanutz94
Hi Kniight, Decided to use a psu tester and it was fried, so pulled the power supply out and trying the fan jumper test and that didn't work either. It's been stated here that because of Corsairs design that commercially available testers may not be accurate. The paperclip test a couple of case fans would have been best. The click is supposed to be there. It's a relay in the PSU . So if it clicked every time that's good. It's hard to say which is bad. To me it looks like more MB. Really the only way to know for sure is to try another PSU. ? Think anything else is fried ? ( I am hoping nothing else is damaged from this faulty power supply ) I do not have a extra power supply to even test to make sure there is no damage. Again, Sorry, but there is just no way to predict that. But yes, it is a possibility.
Knight82
I plan on borrowing a power supply from a friend of mine and just hooking up the 24 pin to test it when I get home I am hoping that it is just the psu but time will tell when I get home
Knight82
Also when I took the power supply out it smelt like something inside 5 he power supply was burnt and with my system I really don't think I am over powering this power supply
Knight82
Also a question I had I just talked to my friend about this today since he helped me try and figure out what was wrong with it last night when we jumped the power supply with the paperclip. Shouldn't the fan on the power supply came on ? Cause it didn't turn on when we jumped it
peanutz94
Did you have anything connected to the PSU? Or did you just ty to start it with the paperclip only?

peanutz94
Then , yes, it should have. at least for a few seconds and then it may have shut back down. But the PSU should have still powered the fan.
