Cozy2522
Hello all, I'm looking to upgrade my mostly stock PC in the next month and I can't come up with concrete information on whether or not liquid cooling is worth it over stock/aftermarket air coolers. I don't plan on OC'ing anytime soon so everything would be factory set, I'm upgrading from my current to a FX 8350. Trying to keep my budget small but still have a solid computer I can't decide if it would be a noticeable difference between the H55 or H80i. What kind of temp difference should I expect from say the stock air cooler that comes with the CPU. I'm still kind of leery about liquid cooling as I've seen the aftermath on part failure, thanks for your time and sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this. Edit: Forgot to post I'm upgrading my case to the Corsair 500R, would I have to mount the liquid cooler I purchase on the top rear or could I mount it on the top like the H100 and up would have to be? Sorry for my lack of knowledge.
peanutz94
The H55 is a good alternative the stock AMD cooler. Which might be a good choice for you since you are running at stock clocks. The ha80 would be slightly better bacuase of the thicker RAD and would be good for mild OC's. What kind of temps can you expect? Any answer is a guess. Case, fans, ambient temps, ect all will have an effect on your temps. Forgot to post I'm upgrading my case to the Corsair 500R, would I have to mount the liquid cooler I purchase on the top rear or could I mount it on the top like the H100 and up would have to be? Sorry for my lack of knowledge. Either position would be fine. If your running at stock speeds and you are leery about it, then I would really suggest you go with an air cooler. Water cooling is a risk to begin with and you really shouldn't be afraid to void any of your warranties. If your the type of person who worries about stuff like that I would rather talk you out of a purchase then you be stuck with one your not entirely happy with. Cozy2522
Thanks for the quick response, would there be a noticeable difference in temperatures if I were just to go ahead and buy a H100i over the H60? Given the same ambient temperature and same fan setup in the 500R?

Given the same ambient temperature and same fan setup in the 500R? you would if you were to run your system at peak load for extended periods plus the h100i is much sleeker looking in my opinion. and as far as having a leakage, yes there is a risk and you need to be willing to accept this possibility but the ration to non leakers vs. leakers is quite slim.i have 3 water units and getting ready for a 4th and ill never use air again, even tho the new processor i chose is close to $600 it will be water cooled. Cozy2522
Sorry to hop around on different models here but I just finished reading on some articles about the H60, is there a new version of it (H60 2013)?

Even if you were overclocked You can only cool to a few degrees below ambient. So even the H60 or H80 should be able to do this with a stock system. If you plan on ooverclocking and are going to need the extra cooling capacity, then the h100i would be a better choice.
Cozy2522
Ok, thanks for the help. I'm excited for the build, mostly Corsair parts and I hear great things about them.
