danbo1626864025
Whenever I try to connect my Voyager Air to my Windows 7 laptop I get a dialog asking for a username and password. If I leave the fields blank and hit return I get an error 0x80070043, network name cannot be found. What is the default username and password for the Voyager Air? I've tried admin/admin but get the same error. The drive is directly connected to the laptop using an ethernet cable and I can ping it with no problem. To connect I'm using the UNC path name, and everything works fine on an XP PC I have and on my Mac. I can also connect fine using a web browser. I've tried searching on Google and it seems that the version of Samba in the firmware may need updating. I'm using the latest firmware 1.2.8. Any suggestions? danbo1626864025
Yellowbeard Thanks for the reply, but I've looked through the guide and am able connect every which way except using an ethernet cable (i.e. as a NAS device) to the Windows 7 laptop. I can connect using Wifi to my iPhone and various other computers, with an ethernet cable to OS X or Xp, and even to VMs running on OS X and Xp. The Windows 7 laptop is my work computer so I can't change its settings, and I believe it's configured to require authentication. I have no problems connecting to other Samba shares that require authentication (for example I can access shares on my Mac using a crossover cable), so I'm hoping the Voyager Air has a default username/password that I can try. Yellowbeard
Have you tried your network credentials? The Voyager Air won't be compatible with certain types of networks that require authentication. You should consult your IT people.
danbo1626864025
Yellowbeard No luck with network credentials but thanks for the information regarding compatibility. A firmware option for username/password authentication would be nice, perhaps something to consider as a future enhancement. Dan
Yellowbeard
The problem is that there is no standardization for that type of credential protocol. There is a large number of ways to do it and it's extremely difficult to make a device like this support them all.
danbo1626864025
Yellowbeard Understand. Alternatively an ftp server or WebDAV option would also work. On the subject of enhancements, for a follow-on product a dual drive Voyager Air would be great; something that supports RAID1, accepts 15mm drives, and still runs on bus power when connected via USB (kind of like the CineRAID). The resulting be-all end-all portable solution having universal connectivity and data redundancy is something I'd pay a lot for. Anyway just some suggestions, no need to reply.
