andreaz70
Hello All, hopefully someone else encounter this behavior: When i switch off my PC the lights on the pump (the corsair logo) still light for some time. They go through a couple of colors and go off after alike 2-3 Minutes. Is this a normal behavior? On a different PC i got (also with a H100i) the lights are gone, as soon the PC is off. Is this a buggy PSU (it's a BeQuiet) or is this normal with some sorts of PSU? Hope anyone else got this? Regards, Andreas
JKeifer
It's probably something to do with the USB ports on your motherboard. I have an ASUS board and once in a while the lights on my keyboard or the lights on my mouse (both Razer) will remain lit while the rest of the computer is off. The next time I turn the computer on and then off again, all is well. Maybe a setting on the individual USB port that allows the computer to wake upon activity is at fault. If you find out what it is please post your findings.
wytnyt
when turned off ,computer components carry power for a short while in a way like capacitors store energy but in your situation id say its the way your m/b is handling the usb headers... andreaz70
Thank you for your fast answers. The idea with keeping the usb ports under power (indeed the mb do this) i got also. But that would belong to the 5V Line of the PSU. Not the 12V. Is'nt the H100i powered from 12V Line? Okay, maybe the board build its own 5V from the 12V line, can't say. If it would regarding to the usb power, then i suppose the light would stay up all time, but after some time its gone - the usb power stay on. Or did the H100i act like: 12V for the pump, 5V for the Controller and LEDs? Tomorow i'll do a measuring at the psu, which Voltages are there and which not. I also got in mind, maybe a capacitor inside the PSU is unloading. It is the difference between my both PCs that make me think, why it is that different. Thank you so far! wytnyt
I also got in mind, maybe a capacitor inside the PSU is unloading. this too is my uneducated guess;): It is the difference between my both PCs that make me think, why it is that different. is both boards the same? if not, that may be why
andreaz70
But, but, but... :) If the capacitors inside the psu is unloading, shouldnt it do in the psu in pc a the same way as in pc b ? My other guess would be that there might be something faulty with the psu. Since the mobo is in repair for an idiotic bug at asus, i only can try in half a year, when i get it back.. .) Would love to only swap the psu's to see if the thing is walking with... Nono, the boards are not the same. The one is a Rampage IV Extreme, the other a msi anything. But the cooler is directly connected to the psu, not the board. When im bored, ill give a psu swap a try. Okay, i've done a simple test. I connected the H100i to the sata power and fired up the psu with a lil wire between pin 14 and 16 (since the board is underway to asus). PSU starts up. After i disconnect the wire emulating PSON, the corsair logo still light up. So the guess, it is an unloading cap inside the psu should be right. But i still ask myself: Is this a normal psu behavior? Regards, Andreas
wytnyt
But i still ask myself: Is this a normal psu behavior? andreas anything is possible you most likely will get a better answer by asking on your psu forum, unless another member here also uses your brand of PSU
andreaz70
Anyways. Thanks in advance for help. Even for spit out some ideas about that. Also for bringing me to research for the reason... :) I asked the psu manfucaturer already. Waiting for answer. Thanky! :) Andreas
peanutz94
Whether it's the board or the PSU it isn't anything that is all that uncommon. And no it won't hurt anything. And if both PC are using the same PSU , then it's possible one is "aging" faster than the other. But that in no way signals a potential failure either. It could be like that for years. Jckf
The PSU will only provide the board with 5 volts at "stand-by" (when the machine is off). If the lights on the unit are powered by the 12 volt line from the PSU, then your PSU is misbehaving, as that line should be OFF when the machine is off. andreaz70
Thats what i thought. I wrote a mail to bequiet support, but i think I'm out of warranty with this psu. To be secure I guess I'll buy another. And cause of the great support i got from here, i'll try a AX860i - so please dont disappoint me, corsair! :) Regards, Andreas

andreaz70
Got it here now and still waiting for my board in repair. Funny what they all put into the package. Hope i can put it to productive when my board ist back soon.. :) But still ask myself where i could buy the sleeved cable set here in germany for a reasonable price. I would do from corsair directly if the shipping wouldnt be so expensive.. :/ Regards, Andreas
