Trouble Mounting AF140 Case fans

Hi All,

Bought a few AF140 to put in my case. They look great, but I'm having an issue mounting them. It seems impossible to thread the mounting screws through the rubber holes on the edges of the fan. Has anyone else encounter this? or used a different size screw? I'm thinking of just bringing one in to a hardware store and finding one that fits better. I wanted to check here first cause maybe I'm just an idiot and doing it incorrectly. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Updated my system specs.

Case is NZXT Phantom 820 Series

The reason I didn't include theses is it is not a problem with the case, it is I can not get the mounting screws that came with the fans to thread through the holes on the fan. It doesn't seem like they are threaded at all. I was wondering if anyone else had trouble with that.

They are not threaded. The screws will cut the threads when you put them in. They can be pretty tough to get started . Try using just a little bit of lubricant either on the screw or in the hole. Even a single drop of dish washing liquid would work.

The standard fan mount screws included in most fan kits (including the Corsair fans) are called "Self-tapping" screws. They create the threads as well as screw into the fan. The main reason these are used is that they allow fans to be mounted in more types of cases with wildly varying material thicknesses.

Another option besides the one mentioned by peanutz94 is to use slightly thinner screws, and use nuts and washers. This particular mounting style (minus the nuts) is how Corsair's own liquid coolers mount fans and mount onto cases.
