M30 mouse problem

Hi,

I've got 2 PCs (both windows 8.1 but issue started while on 8.0), both with a corsair M30 mouse. Within the past week or 2 they have both started experiencing the same problem. When you scroll down it will jerk back up. I've uploaded a short video on YouTube to demonstrate what I mean :

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem and I've only had the mouse a week. Me scrolling on the BBC news website today looks exactly the same!

I've been browsing and I notice a few posts below this is this one, might try submitting a ticket as well. Would be helpful to know if anyone has any ideas what's going on here.

My M30 was the same, but having tried different drivers and two machines, rather than do without my mouse for a while, or perhaps buy another cheap one, I decided to open it, (I am a retired computer engineer).

I realised this voided my warranty, but it had to be fixable.

I removed the 4 screws underneath, 2 on the front under the outer edges of the slip mat, and 2 at the rear on the outer edges again. One of the screws was in fact not even in, but resting on the pad, though this was not the problem.

There is a small "plastic" wheel that revolves at the end of the middle wheel shaft, and one side of this small wheel is serrated, with a small sprung metal plated against it giving it the ratchet feel, or clicking. I must say I do not like metal against plastic, as without lubricant it causes friction. I suspect the resulting plastic dust collects on the small wheel and causes an issue, or maybe it had been assembled by someone with greasy hands, because cleaning it by rotating the main wheel with a lint free cloth held against the small wheel, and blowing on the area, has fixed the problem, at least for now.

Inside the mouse was perfectly clean, so the problem was not caused by outside contamination.

It is obviously up to individuals whether they void the warranty or not, and you would need to be careful.

I registered here just to post this -

I had the exact same problem as other fellow Corsair M30 users. It got super annoying because the screen would just keep jumping and I couldnt get a smooth scroll.

I followed Yozzer's suggestions and it worked brilliantly!!!!

To recap exact steps:

- peel the pads underneath the mouse

- removed the 4 screws

- take mouse half off (watch out for plugged in cable!)

- locate the small wheel at the end of the scroll wheel, its a small black wheel thats in a small metal casing (as per Yozzer), with a serrated edge, this is the part that causes the "clicking"

- then, immense amount of cleaning. Yozzer nailed it, it must've been some dust or grease from factory, doesnt seem like any external contamination would've affected this.

- I used a lot of compress air in all the areas in and around the small serrated wheel, I used a disinfectant wipe to clean the wheel, I used a paper towel to clean everything off, and a final wipe with a lint-free cloth (wipe as you scroll)

- put the mouse half back together, 4 screws back in place

- apply new, fresh tape pads underneath

- done!

Worked like magic, scroll wheel is AMAZING now!

As long as you're careful of the plugged-in cable for DPI adjustment, I dont think there's anything in particular that's super fragile or difficult to assemble. I've taken apart other mice in the past which were an absolute nightmare, this is far from it.

Fantastic product. I loved it when I first tried it, perfect size. I have relatively large palms and its difficult to find mice that fit my palm nicely (I started to disregard reviews......, you just have to try it for yourself to find the perfect mouse). In fact, I bought TWO of the M30. I tried both and the second one didnt have this problem.

Also a user of K70 cherry mx red, MM200 extended mouse mat, and a whole lot of corsair ram.
